Merle Phillips 

Merle Edwin Phillips Jr., lovingly known as “Bill” to his friends and family, passed away on March 24, 2026, at the age of 77. Merle was born on Oct. 19, 1948, in Stark, Kansas, to Merle Edwin Phillips Sr. and Ester Phillips, both of whom preceded him in death. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Oregon, where he would spend the majority of his life. His time away was only during his honorable service in the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country.

Merle pursued some college coursework and went on to build a respected career as a skilled millwright. Over the years, he worked at DEE Lumbermill, SDS Lumbermill in Bingen, Washington, and Oregon Cherry Growers in The Dalles, Oregon. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his craft.
