As Andrew Richman, Steven Preston, Austin Greene and JR Scott prepare for 5A state wrestling action next weekend, The Dalles head coach Paul Beasley announced that his program received a prestigious OSAA Sportsmanship Award for their activity, which includes 100 OSAA Cup points for the school.

To the editor: I believe most sports fans tune in to actually escape from rancorous reality by watching an exciting and rewarding football game. But they don’t tune in to see some player kneel and whine during our national anthem.
Wahtonka Community School student Damon Spangle was given an award by a local gaming business recently. And it wasn’t because he’s some huge gamer, it was for how he conducts himself as a person. Oregon Trail Games, which is hosting Wagon Con, a first-ever gaming convention in The Dalles in April, wanted to “highlight a kid in our community who is living the Wagon Con ideals of sportsmanship and positive attitude,” said Aaron Bowman, a convention organizer.
“Take Me Out to the Ball Game” is playing on every station in the Yasui household. Half of our eight grandchildren are playing one form or another of baseball. The remaining four will spend many hours on the bleachers watching their cousins or siblings play ball over the next few months. It is a time-honored tradition in the Yasui family.
Now to my point, I would like to recognize and thank the girls and boys basketball teams for their great examples during each game and season just ended. They always played their best, gave it all they had and were at the top of sportsmanship conduct.
