I have served on the Wasco County Budget Committee for the last six years and would like to share my observations about Commissioner Rod Runyon.
His primary concern after he got elected was to find new office space for him, initial estimates for remodeling were over $200,000. I reminded him in two different commission meetings that commissioner’s office remodel was not on any capital improvement list, not a priority, no money in the budget and frivolous.
And I said it wouldn’t look good to spend money on yourself when we don’t have funding for our roads. Commissioner Runyon still went ahead and spent $15,000 on a meeting room remodel, $3,000 just on new chairs!
He spent the last four years dancing around finding any road funding and the best idea the commissioners could come up with was a $2/$1,000 additional property tax, that didn’t get very far with the constituents. On the other hand they supported millions of dollars a year tax break for Google, what’s wrong with this picture?
I have watched morale and unity at the county erode under Commissioner Runyon, if you’re not a yes man to him then you pay the price in losing funding and support.
Commissioner Runyon is not a leader, he is an ineffective commissioner, his only contribution to the county is his ability to talk and talk and not say or do anything.
Commissioner Runyon is not good for Wasco County and doesn’t deserve our support!
