Open letter to the owner of the old Sunshine Mill. You painted the long building black with a red roof. Very nice. As a member of this community since 1942 I am always interested (and aware) of how people take care of their property. Thank you, the building looks great (the orange door doesn’t go with the red and black but hopefully it will get painted also).
However (isn’t there always a however?) It is my understanding you got $200,000 from the city (probably urban renewal money that I didn’t get to vote for), to paint the wheat silos. Why didn’t you paint those first per your agreement? Just wondering!

Editor’s note: The Urban Renewal money given to the Sunshine Mill was to clean and paint the building but finding a way to get years of embedded grime off the silos has proven difficult, according to company representative James Martin. He recently told Columbia Gateway Urban Renewal Agency that insulation will be applied to the silos when renovations begin on the new hotel and, because that will make the structure look more unsightly, plans are under way to hang a mesh screen over the silos and paint the warehouse sometime this year. Part of the $200,000 loan was used for the warehouse building improvements. Urban renewal loans are scheduled to be repaid when Martin’s company purchases the building in 2014.
