Letter to the editor: Helping the homeless

I make up 50 bags each year to be passed out to the diners that day. We include one bottle of water, an apple, washcloth, bar of soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, pair of gloves and a pair of socks – plus a $5 gift card at a fast food place.

I also include a bag with eight homemade cookies.

A big thank you to Alvena, who decorated 50 bags, they were beautiful.

Patti and Shari helped me put the bags together. Sandy helped count everything out and make sure we had enough for each bag.

Thanks to all who brought socks and gloves by my house.

Also, two donors who bought nearly all the gift cards — you know who you are.

The Fellowship of Churches came through with all the cookies. Plus, my church ladies from U.C.C. Congregational.

Bob supplied a big box of apples. I’ve been doing this for about three years now and it’s such a rewarding thing to do – for the givers and those receiving.
