To the editor:
It’s clear we need some new blood on city council. It is time for this new blood because, despite the fact that we have the largest budget of any city in eastern Oregon, our streets are in dire need of repair. We have the highest water rates in eastern Oregon and our economic growth is definitely not brag-worthy.
In the last eight years, the budget has increased $23 million, which is something to be proud of – so why not use it to make our city reflect that significant growth?
As for those water rates I mentioned before, word on the street is (and not our streets full of potholes and debris) that they will go 60 percent higher in the next six years! You will think twice about filling that kiddie pool next summer.
For me, the new blood we need on city council is Taner Elliott. He uses common sense and persistence to reach workable solutions without raising taxes or fees.
In the past, city council hasn’t always been open to new perspectives and has relied on the simple tactic of increasing taxes and fees to achieve their goals.
These are just a few of the reasons why I am casing my vote for Taner Elliott and you should consider it too!
