HOOD RIVER — Hood River’s City Council approved the city’s 2026-2027 budget at its June 8 meeting following a public hearing at which no one testified.
Finance Director Chris Longinetti said the budget was approved by the city’s budget committee on May 13 after deliberating over the course of three meetings.
“The city’s budget is the financial plan for the fiscal year, authorizes and limits how much money the city can spend, and establishes the levy of property taxes,” Longinetti said. “The fiscal year 2026-27 budget provides for an All-Funds budget in the amount of $53.5 million in appropriations, and $65.2 million [that includes] unappropriated amounts.”
Though the council unanimously approved the budget, a somewhat lengthy discussion on how to allocate $15,550 in small grant funds preceded passage. Council eventually decided to continue the discussion at a future meeting by a vote of 6-1, noted by City Administrator Abigail Elder.
Coming up
The city is hosting two events at city hall in the coming weeks. The first, a housing town hall and panel discussion, will be held on June 23 from 6-7:30 p.m. The second, a police station open house, will be held June 29 from 5-7 p.m.
The city is considering placing bonds on the November ballot to address the housing shortage, as well as to upgrade the police station to meet basic standards.
