Mayor Paul Blackburn and City Council passed a proclamation last week that Oct. 7 is Tod LeFevre Day in Hood River, in honor of the late resident’s championing of sustainability and “his humble determination to make our community and this world a better place.” With Blackburn are LeFevre’s wife, Mardi, and children, Cassel and Sutton, during a joint council-Urban Renewal Agency meeting. The proclamation states that LeFevre (“la-fay”), who died in 2011, was a respected civil engineer, an adventurer, innovator, teacher, husband and father who launched a solar engineering firm, Common Energy. He worked with members of the community and City Planning to submit a grant application to the Oregon Department of Transportation to develop a Safe Routes to School Project along May Street, which is now under construction (above) with upgraded sidewalks and pedestrian access, and designated bicycle lanes from 17th Street to Rand Road. Also shown, from right, are City Council members Susan Johnson and Laurent Picard, and Hoby Streich, Port of Hood River commissioner and URA board member.
