WHITE SALMON — From cats to goats, Tina’s Animal Care is the newest licensed and insured pet care business in the Gorge.
After visiting Hood River for a wedding, Christina DiRenzo immediately felt drawn to the Columbia River Gorge. Originally from New Jersey, where the “go-go-go” pace didn’t match her own mindset, she knew the Pacific Northwest was calling her. Late last year she finally made the move and found herself calling White Salmon her new home.
When DiRenzo made her solo move across the country, she brought her animal care business with her while keeping established employees busy with clients in New Jersey. Tina’s Animal Care LLC was officially established in 2021 after about a year of DiRenzo’s efforts to kickstart the business.
At a young age, DiRenzo was certain that animals were her calling. “I always knew that this was what I wanted to do. I’ve dedicated my entire life to animal care and take it very seriously,” she said. At 17, DiRenzo worked in a veterinarian office and later took animal courses in college in addition to working on a farm and starting her business as a side hustle. It quickly took off and by 2022, DiRenzo was working full-time for herself.
Tina’s Animal Care offers daytime pet care for any animal you can imagine — dogs, cats, cows, pigs, turkeys, goats, chickens, and more. She said she even works with aggressive animals after a preliminary meet and greet to assess their care needs. Though she does not offer boarding, training, or overnight options, she is willing to come to your home or animal’s space and care for them however needed.
With more than five years of veterinary experience, DiRenzo feels comfortable caring for any animal, including administering medicines and responding to emergency situations. Her detailed observation of pet behaviors and good communication gives her clients confidence in her work.
“I take a lot of pride in how reliable I am. I’m not just a random person, I really, truly care and am passionate about providing the best possible care to your pets. Owners and animals alike deserve to feel safe and relaxed,” she said.
So far, DiRenzo said the Gorge community has been nothing but kind and welcoming. She has three cats of her own, Pesto, Swiss Cheese, and Toast, and she is working several other jobs while waiting for her LLC to grow to full-time hours. You can find her working as an assistant vet tech at the Arrowleaf Veterinary clinic and, for the first time in her life, working non-animal jobs including time as a personal assistant and at Grateful Vineyards in Parkdale.
Now that she’s settled in the Gorge, DiRenzo is focusing on expanding her pet care business and reaffirming her great reputation here on the West coast. “I did this all on my own with no help and I’m still learning every day about business things, but I’m very happy with how it’s going,” DiRenzo said.
