HUNTINGTON — A 34-year-old man from Huntington is facing multiple charges, including felony strangulation, following an incident on Sunday morning.
According to a Jan. 5 news release from Baker County Sheriff's Office, police were dispatched to a disturbance at about 11:47 a.m. and told that the suspect was no longer at the residence where it occurred.
Deputies responded to meet with the involved parties and found that what started out as an argument between two people had escalated.
Police allege that Kyle Allen Harp tried to bite the victim, who then tried to push Harp off of her. Harp then allegedly strangled the victim and shoved her into a wall, then left and went to a nearby residence.
Deputies found Harp and arrested him then took him to be lodged in the Baker County Jail.
In addition to strangulation, Harp is facing misdemeanor charges of assault in the fourth degree and harassment. Harp was arraigned on those charges on Jan. 5 by Judge Matthew B Shirtcliff, according to court records. He has a court-appointed attorney, Damien R. Yervasi. The judge set Harp's security bond at $30,000.
In Oregon, strangulation is generally a misdemeanor unless it happens during an act of domestic violence or the victim is under the age of 10.
A status check for a plea hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14.
