HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley’s girls wrestling team completed its prep season with three Eagles representing the school at the March 26-28 OSAA Class 6A/5A state tournament at Portland’s Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Xiomara Gordian-Gomez won two of her four matches at 155 pounds, losing to wrestlers who placed at state. The HRV senior lost by fall in the first round to Amari Meilicke of Crater. Gordian-Gomez bounced back in a big way with back-to-back consolation wins: she won by fall over Dema Al Rubaye of Aloha and then by a 5-0 decision over Roseburg’s LilyAnne Rothacker.
Olivia Flores of Central was trailing to Gordian-Gomez, 6-0, before earning a nearfall and then winning by fall over the HRV wrestler in the third round. Flores would place fourth and Meilicke fifth.
Senior Valeria Solorio Compos won by fall in the first round over Alana Wilson of North Salem at 170 pounds. Ionela Macavei of Hillsboro and Ally Meyer of Glencoe then each beat Compos in the consolation rounds. Meyer would eventually pin Macavei in the third-fourth match.
Sophomore Ayleen Marquez lost both her matches at 105 pounds. She faced Chloe Warren of Liberty in the first round and lost by fall to the junior who would go on to finish third overall. Lilly Loghry of Grants Pass won by an 8-5 decision over Marquez in the consolation rounds.
Hood River scored eight team points and finished 52nd among 63 schools. Crook County won the tourney with 140 points.
