OREGON — Dawn Rasmussen, Democratic candidate for Oregon’s 2nd Congressional District, announced today, March 2, the addition of Dan Ruby as senior strategy advisor, continuing the expansion of her campaign leadership team and deepening outreach across Southern Oregon.
“As this campaign grows, I’m building a team that reflects the depth and diversity of CD2,” Rasmussen said. “Dan brings experience in education, community health, wildfire resilience, and regional leadership. He understands Southern Oregon, and he understands how to build durable coalitions.”
Ruby currently serves as an elected member of the Ashland School Board and co-founder of Sunstone Housing Collaborative and has worked across education, healthcare, housing, and climate resilience. Dan grew up in the Great Basin and began his career in science education, going on to lead ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum in Ashland. Following the Almeda Fire, he focused on housing and resilience efforts, serving as a consultant to Firebrand Resiliency Collective and later as Senior Director of Partnerships at Rogue Community Health. He also led development efforts for the Rogue Community College Foundation and serves on the boards of Future Climate Collective and Southern Oregon Friends of Hospice.
After running for Oregon’s 2nd Congressional District in 2024, Ruby continued his work in education and civic leadership and is now joining Rasmussen’s campaign to help strengthen regional organizing and coalition-building efforts.
“Southern Oregon deserves leadership that listens and works across communities,” Ruby said. “Dawn is doing that work — showing up, asking hard questions, and focusing on practical solutions. I’m proud to help build a campaign that reflects the resilience and character of this region.”
Southern Oregon Listening Tour
Rasmussen will begin a three-week swing through Southern Oregon next week, with stops planned across Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, Umatilla, and Douglas counties. The tour will include meetings with educators, healthcare providers, small business owners, farmers, wildfire recovery leaders, veterans, and community organizations.
“This district is vast, and representation requires presence,” Rasmussen said. “I’m committed to spending real time in Southern Oregon — listening carefully and building a campaign rooted in local priorities.”
Dawn Rasmussen is running for U.S. Congress in Oregon’s 2nd Congressional District. Her campaign focuses on strengthening rural economies, expanding access to healthcare, supporting small businesses and workforce development, and building resilient communities across CD2.
