Dennis McCauley, principal at Mid Valley Elementary, announced last week that he will be retiring from the Hood River County School District at the end of the school year.
McCauley began his career in education in 1971 as an elementary teacher for grades 3, 4 and 5 at Davis Elementary in the Reynolds School District, where he taught 17 years. In 1988, he moved to Reynolds Middle School, where he taught until 1996. He then went back to teaching elementary at Woodland Elementary in the Reynolds School District until 1998, when he became principal of Davis Elementary School.
McCauley came to the Hood River County School District in August 2004, serving as the principal of Mid Valley Elementary.
“The District wishes Mr. McCauley all the best as he moves into retirement at the end of the school year,” said Kevin Noreen, district human resources director.
The district is immediately initiating a search process to hire the next principal for Mid Valley Elementary. The district will be seeking input from staff as well as parents and community members on the qualities and attributes they would like to see in the next principal for the school.
Parents and community members are invited to meet with Superintendent Dan Goldman at an evening forum on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Mid Valley Elementary School library.
