Notable incidents

A single-vehicle, non-injury crash occurred in White Salmon. The vehicle was towed.

Two theft reports. In one incident, a backpack was found missing. The other investigation is ongoing.

Two animal calls were logged in White Salmon.

Hood River Sheriff, Aug. 1 - 31

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Assault (one), contempt of court (one), disorderly conduct (one), DUII (one), harassment (three), probation violation (one), restraining order violation (one), strangulation (one), warrant (three).

Notable incidents

Four non-injury vehicle crashes. In one incident, a deputy responded to a single-vehicle crash into a telephone pole on Aug. 2. The driver was transported to the hospital with no serious injury.

One injury traffic crash. A vehicle crashed on Highway 281 and Woodworth on Aug. 28. A report was taken.

One hit and run report.

One elude. Deputies responded to a reckless driving complaint in Pine Grove on Aug. 25, prior to engaging in a vehicle pursuit with the suspect vehicle, which eluded.

An unattended death was reported.

Deputies responded to six search and rescue calls. One was called for a reported mountain bike accident with injury at the Family Man staging area. Another located a teenager from Portland near Lost Lake on Aug. 18. Another found a person who was hiking Indian Springs Trail with friends, but was dehydrated and very tired and could not make it back up to the trailhead on Aug. 27. In another incident, an ill person needed rescue from the Timberline Trail above Elk Cove on Aug. 19. In another, two people were lost just before dark on the Eagle Creek Trail on Aug. 26. In another, two people were hiking the Pacific Crest Trail on Aug. 28, and took the old Ruckle Ridge Trail that does not exist anymore.

A deputy responded to a kiteboarding injury call at the Hood River Spit on Aug. 11.

On Aug. 5, a deputy responded to an injured tow foiler at the Hood River boat ramp.

Fourteen theft reports. Incidents included theft from vehicle (five), shoplifting, theft of gasoline (two), theft by deception, and bike theft from Best Western in Cascade Locks. In one incident, a storage container at Cascade Locks Marine Park was broken into and several items stolen.

A vehicle was reported stolen from Cascade Locks on Aug. 24.

A stolen vehicle was recovered near the Hood River Tollbridge on Aug. 7.

Two identity theft reports.

Three car prowls were reported in Cascade Locks.

Two restraining order violations.

Bullet holes were found in a residence on Miller Road on Aug. 3. A report was taken.

Two animal calls were logged. In one incident, a female gray-and-white pitbull-type dog bit a person on 22nd Street in Hood River Aug. 30.

A deputy dispatched an injured deer in a yard near Baldwin Creek Drive on Aug. 27.

Hood River Police, Sept. 3 - 9

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Criminal mischief (one), driving under the influence of intoxicants (eight), driving while suspended (two), drug law violation (four), eluding (one), harassment (one), resisting arrest (one), theft (three), trespass (one), unlawful possession of a concealed firearm (one), warrant (three).

Notable incidents

Eight DUII arrests. In one incident, a driver was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a concealed firearm.

Eight theft reports. Shoplifting (five incidents), forged checks, and items from a porch. A burglary was reported from a local business.

Four drug law violations. In one incident, a resident of Pasco, Wash., was arrested and lodged at NORCOR on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance (schedule II), and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

Two vehicle crashes, both non-injury. Locations were 13th Street and State, and 13th and Sherman.

A Hood River resident reported damage to a car from a suspected hit and run.

On Sept. 7, an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop in Hood River regarding a suspended driver. The driver exited their vehicle and attempted to elude on foot, but were later located and arrested on multiple charges including a detainer out of Washington County.

A bar reported a 20-year-old was attempting to steal a bottle of alcoholic beverage from behind the counter. The individual was put into handcuffs by bar security. Officers responded and determined the person was intoxicated. They admitted to consumption of alcoholic beverages and were charged with minor in possession of alcohol.

A criminal mischief report was taken for a vandalized car.

The Dalles Police, Sept. 8 - 15

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Assault (one), criminal mischief (one), harassment (three), theft (four), trespass (three), unauthorized use of motor vehicle (one), warrant (five).

Notable incidents

Two hit and run reports. Locations were W. Eighth Street and Cherry Heights and Sixth Street on Sept. 13.

One vehicle crash. A report was taken for a two-vehicle crash blocking traffic at 10th Street and Dry Hollow Road on Sept. 12, with possible injuries. A black Nisan Extera and a Black Lexus were involved in the t-bone crash.

Thirteen theft reports. Cold theft, shoplifting (three), items left in a booth at a business on Cherry Heights Road, bike from Mt. Hood Street, fuel from a vehicle, ID theft, items from a Fish and Wildlife engine parked on Seventh Street, emergency kit from a porch, firearm in pink camo case. In one incident, a yellow-and-black pressure washer was taken from the back of a salmon-colored Toyota Tacoma while it was parked at the high school. In another, a witness reported a person carrying “bags of money” out of a laundromat on Sixth Street, having reportedly broken the locks and taken money from the machines. This person was gone before the parties responsible for the business arrived. An officer took a theft and criminal mischief report.

A stolen vehicle was recovered near Bret Clodfeldter Way Sept. 10.

Two burglary reports. In one incident, a burglary-in-progress was interrupted by a resident of Sixth Street on Sept. 12. The reporting party called 911 to state they returned after an absence of a couple hours to find a window broken and a person inside the bedroom of their home at about 5 p.m. that day. They reported the suspect stated, “This is my home and I have been here forever.” The reporting party, who lives alone with their cat, stated money was missing but saw no weapons. Officers responded and arrested the intruder for burglary and criminal mischief. In another incident, a reporting party noticed on a their own security cameras that there was a ladder leaning against window in a building on Seventh Street. Officers accessed the residence with permission. No intruder was located inside, but it appeared someone had entered the upstairs bathroom through a window off the roof.

A business on Walnut Street reported a fake check being cashed. A report was taken and the incident is under investigation.

Nineteen mental health calls were logged.

A reporting party was driving their Subaru near E. Seventh Street and Washington Street, when two kids threw a broken cellphone from the bluffs onto the roof of the Subaru, causing large dents in the roof.

Twenty-three animal calls were logged. Incidents included dogs at large, welfare checks on dogs, dog attacking dog, questions regarding dog licensing, ACO duties, dog taken to Home At Last, barking dogs, injured deer dispatched, missing dog.

Wasco County Sheriff, Sept. 8 - 15

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Warrant (three).

Notable incidents

Two vehicle crashes with injuries. In one incident, a driver hit a deer while turning onto Fifteenmile Road from Old Moody Road. The vehicle came to rest partially in a ditch up against a rock wall, with heavy front end damage, and was towed. In another incident, a Ford Explorer high-centered over the drainage in a ditch on Sevenmile Hill Road, getting a flat tire and tearing up the phone lines. The driver allegedly fell asleep. The company responsible for the phone lines was notified.

A person reported being scammed out of $12,000 dollars. A report was taken.

One theft report. A rental 20-foot tilt flatbed trailer and ground rods were taken on the night of Sept. 7 from near the intersection of Highways 126 and 197.

A burglary was reported from Highway 30, which occurred on Sept. 8. A window was pushed through and a phone, jewelry and makeup with an estimated value of “at least a couple thousand” taken.

A cow landed on a person during a roping event at Wasco County Fairgrounds on Sept. 9. The person was first reported unconscious but breathing. They later became alert and active. EMS responded.

Ten animal calls were logged. Missing dog, goat and dog at large near Highway 197, dogs at large, alleged horse neglect, missing pink-and-brown pig named Bacon, two cows in a yard on State Road, two calls regarding two cows on Lonely Lane, cows in Sevenmile Hill Road. In one incident, a person shot a brown-and-white pitbull that tried to attack them on Sept. 14.

Oregon State Police, Sept. 8 - 14

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (seven); reckless driving (three), recklessly endangering person (one), warrant (two).

Notable incidents

Two occupants sustained injuries in a single-vehicle crash in Hood River county on Sept. 9. A trooper responded to a roll-over crash on Highway 281, near milepost 6 northbound at about 9:42 a.m. A blue Ford Explorer had left its lane of travel, driven up an embankment, and crashed head-on into the embankment. The driver and the passenger, both of Parkdale, were entrapped and Fire and EMS units extracted them. The driver did not display signs of impairment and was transported to the local hospital; the passenger was life-flighted. Deputies had secured the scene prior to arrival, and medics had begun transport of the passenger. The vehicle was towed.

One non-injury vehicle crash. A tow truck was westbound on I-84 near milepost 76 with their overhead flashing tow lights on, driving about 30 mph in the right lane due to a broken hydraulic in the flat bed. A 70-year-old driver from Washougal came around the corner and saw the tow truck. The driver started changing lanes in their motorhome and sideswiped a Ford Expedition rental car, pushing it into the median. All three vehicles remained on scene and a crash report was taken. Everyone was belted and there were no injuries.

Seven DUII arrests. In one incident, a dark blue Dodge Magnum was called in on Sept. 9, reportedly “all over the roadway” on I-84 near milepost 75 eastbound, passing on the right shoulder and throwing a beer can at a state park. Troopers located the vehicle and observed poor driving behavior. During the contact, open beer cans and signs of impairment were observed. The driver consented to field sobriety and exhibited more signs of impairment. They were arrested and transported to NORCOR, were a breath sample revealed a .14% blood alcohol content.

OSP received a report regarding an unidentified male who reportedly followed a female into the women’s restroom at the Memaloose rest area. Another unidentified individual entered the restroom and chased the male subject away. He was described as a white male adult, mid-40s, wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat with gray tennis shoes. The reporting party called into OSP about six hours after the incident.
