Notable incidents

One vehicle crash, no injuries, reported from Bingen on Oct. 7.

A hit and run was reported in White Salmon on Sept. 29. Another hit and run was reported in Bingen on Oct. 5.

Two theft reports, from Bingen.

Eight animal calls were logged, from Bingen and White Salmon. In one incident, an animal bite was reported in Bingen. In another, a White Salmon dog was impounded. Another involved livestock at large.

Hood River Police, Oct. 1 - 7

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Assault (one), DUII (eight), driving while suspended (one), eluding (one), felon in possession of a weapon (one), strangulation (one), theft (one), warrant (nine).

Notable incidents

Nine warrant arrests. In one incident, two Hood River transients were arrested on outstanding warrants.

Eight DUII arrests. In one incident, a resident of Cascade Locks was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and attempting to elude by vehicle. The Cascade Locks resident provided breath samples which revealed a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit. In another incident, an individual was arrested and lodged at NORCOR on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving while suspended, parole violation warrant and felon in possession of a weapon.

Four theft reports. Shoplifting at Walmart (two incidents), items from a vehicle, and a forged check used to purchase a duplicate ID from the DMV. The forged check was used by a resident of The Dalles, who is also a suspect in two prior cases of forgery and theft locally as well as two cases from The Dalles Police Department and Tigard Police Department.

Two motor vehicle crashes, both non-injury. Both crashes occurred near the intersection of Second and Cascade Streets.

Officers received a report of a window broken at an apartment complex. A rock was located inside the residence. No known suspects.

The detective attended a forensic interview at SafeSpace Children’s Advocacy Center on behalf of Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office.

The Dalles Police, Oct. 6 - 13

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Disorderly conduct (one), harassment (one), robbery (one), theft (one), trespass (two), warrant (six).

Notable incidents

Two drug overdoses were logged. In on incident, a person overdosed on Fentanyl and stopped breathing on Third Street on Oct. 7. Two doses of Narcan were administered by others on the scene, one dose by the police, and the person taken to the hospital. In another incident on Second Street, an individual overdosed and was administered a dose of narcan by others on the scene before being hospitalized.

Two vehicle crashes, both non-injury. In an incident on Oct. 10, two vehicles crashed on Second and Brewery Grade, and requested assistance with a language barrier. One vehicle was damaged.

A hit and run report was taken on Oct. 8 from East Second and Union Streets. A silver SUV was hit while parked, and the front fender ripped off.

A reporting party’s neighbor stated they saw someone attempt to take their bikes on Home Street on Oct. 11. They caught up to the suspect and retrieved their bikes, but the suspect threatened to shoot them. The person, who did not display or draw any weapons, was arrested and lodged for robbery, theft, and trespass.

A seizure warrant was executed on a vehicle in The Dalles on Oct. 6.

An caller stated a shot was fired at them from a passing vehicle on Tenth.

Seven theft reports. Identity theft, theft of services, paint gun, car registration, bike, generator, cash and flashlight from vehicle.

Seventeen mental health calls were logged.

A nurse’s station advised they discovered meth in a patient’s belongings. Officers took the items for destruction.

Two reports for found drug material: One incident on Snipes Street and another separate incident on Second Street.

Twenty-one animal calls. Dogs at large, incessantly barking corgi puppies, missing dog, jeep hit cat, captured cat. In one incident, an officer deployed a net gun on a skittish white male dog on Fourteenth Street — but the dog was able to shake off the net and elude.

A caller on Lincoln Street reported finding a weed-eater in the bushes, which they investigated after seeing a couple of individuals “acting suspiciously.” The caller advised they would try to locate the owner.

Wasco County Sheriff, Oct. 6 - 13

Notable incidents

Two vehicle crashes, no injuries noted in log. In one incident, a car flipped on Fifth Street near Dufur School on Oct. 12. The vehicle came to rest on its side with all tires up. The single occupant was able to exit the vehicle and was taken into custody for DUII and transported to the hospital. The vehicle was towed. In another incident, a blue Chevy Cruz struck a farm gate near Fivemile Road and Highway 197. The driver stated they were lost. The Chevy came to rest with all tires up, but seemed semi-drivable. The crash was not reportable. The owner of the gate was contacted.

One warrant arrest. A wanted person was located near Webber and First Streets on Oct. 12. The person “took off” northbound, ditching a bike. A police dog was called out to check all the tall grass along I-84. The person was located and arrested.

One burglary report. A caller reported a supply room broken into on Bakeoven Market Road on Oct. 6, with keypads and locks damaged and items taken, to the tune of several hundred dollars in two brand-new faucets, a box of toilet seats, a bunch of toilet paper and paper towels, and light bulbs.

Six animal calls logged. Horses at large, aggressive pit bull at large, injured dog in road, dog trespassing, labradoodles at large.

A caller reported a .22 pistol at the junction of I97 and Ward Road on Oct. 9. The reporting party put on gloves before picking the gun up and turning it in to police. The .22 was reported stolen through Suffolk County Police Department in 1976.

Oregon State Police, Oct. 6 - 12

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (two), reckless driving (one), warrant (one).

Notable incidents

Four non-injury crashes. In one incident, a vehicle hit a large rock on the left shoulder near Sandlin and Wahtonka roads, lost control, drove off the roadway and struck a tree. The driver reported falling asleep as the reason. The vehicle was towed. In another incident, a dark blue Dodge pickup hydroplaned on I-84 near milepost 51.5 eastbound. It crashed into a center barrier and spun around. A dark green Honda Civic then crashed into the pickup. In a third incident, a silver Subaru Impreza struck a deer on Highway 35 near milepost 94; the driver salvaged the deer.

One injury crash. A trooper responded to a single-vehicle crash at milepost 17 on State Route 281. The driver of the vehicle missed a sharp right turn, due to being blinded by the headlights of another vehicle. The passenger received minor injuries.

Two DUII arrests. In an incident on Oct. 10, a vehicle was called in as a driving complaint. The reporting party stated the suspect vehicle was “over the road.” OSP located the vehicle parked on the interstate. The driver displayed numerous signs of impairment, and was too drunk to complete standard field tests. They were arrested for DUII and reckless driving, subsequently providing breath samples of 0.32%. Two handguns were located in the vehicle.

A landowner in Wasco County called in and informed that a hunter on their property heard two gunshots. They located the area of the shots and observed a truck and tent trailer making several passes before dropping the trailer at a pullout down the road. The truck returned to the area; the caller observed a man walking off of private property. The operator of the vehicle hooked the trailer back up and drove north on US 197. A large buck deer was located the next morning in the area of the trespass, and its head was seized as evidence.
