Notable incidents

Five theft reports. Identity theft (two incidents), landscape trailer, purse, theft of services.

Five warrant arrests. In one incident, officers arrested two non-residents for warrants. One was also charged with felon in possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and identity theft.

Three hit-and-run reports. Locations include Best Western Parking lot, I-84 exit 64 eastbound on-ramp, and Walmart parking lot.

Two DUII arrests. In one incident a resident of Hermiston, Ore., was arrested and lodged at NORCOR on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, providing false information to a peace officer, and two outstanding felony warrants.

Officers towed an abandoned motorcycle let in the bike lane on Oak Near Ninth Street.

A fraud report was taken.

Officers secured an abandoned bicycle for safekeeping.

The Dalles Police, Nov. 10 - 16

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Criminal mischief (one), detainer (one), robbery (one), theft (one), warrant (one).

Notable incidents

Two vehicle crashes. In one incident, a two-vehicle crash was reported blocking West Tenth and Cherry Heights on Nov. 12. Involved were a RAV 4 and a Honda mini van, both of which were towed. One driver was transported to an area hospital. Wasco Count Sheriff’s Office also responded. In another incident, a two-vehicle crash with a possible wrist injury was reported on Sixth Street.

Three burglary reports. An electric lawnmower with charger and air compressor was stolen from a basement on Eleventh Street sometime in the last two weeks. No doors or windows were damaged. In another incident, approximately $10,000 worth of county and personal equipment was taken from a building on Second Street. There were no suspects at time of call, although a lack of damage to the entryway led the reporting party to believe the person had access, according to logs. In another incident on Nov. 16, officers responded to a burglary alarm on Second Street, locating a broken door.

A reporting party stated that a building west of Festival Park was broken into, with windows broken and doors kicked in, on Nov. 15. The building was cleared and the door locked.

One robbery report. A person walked into a store, took a beer and attempted to walk out. They were confronted by the store employee, who attempted to retrieve the beer, and a fight ensued. The suspect was later arrested for robbery and theft.

Six theft reports. Four motion lights stolen from Ninth Street in the past few weeks, ticket cashed by thief, jacket and purse from workplace, items including e-bike and Xbox from a basement on Tenth Street, theft from business, Platinum 7 5th.

Three stolen vehicle reports. In one incident, a Ford was stolen from 12th Street. In another, the owner of a newly purchased flatbed trailer called in on Nov. 14 to state they had discovered their new vehicle was previously reported stolen. The trailer was confirmed stolen out of Salem Police Department in 2021; the caller provided proof of sale. The original victim was located, and the truck retrieved and towed. In another incident, a caller reported a three-minute-old theft of a gray Subaru from Webber Street.

Nine mental health calls logged.

Eleventh animal calls logged. Dogs at large, allegations of aggressive dog, welfare check on dog. In one incident on Nov. 13, a pitbull jumped into the reporting party’s vehicle and refused to be removed, biting a person who attempted to do so. The dog was lodged at Home At Last.

A used needle was found on East Second, picked up and disposed of by officers.

Wasco County Sheriff, Nov. 9 - 17

Notable incidents

A stolen moped was reported from Chenowith Creek Road.

A report of an attempted phone scam was taken.

Fourteen animal calls logged. Dogs at large, escaped horse (three incidents), allegedly wandering chickens (no evidence found). In one of the three horse incidents, a black horse with a white face was reported running in the roadway on Browns Creek. Another caller later advised the horse was on their property. The owner set forth to catch it. In another incident on Nov. 15, a few steers showed up on a Browns Creek property overnight, and were secured by a resident and returned. In another incident on Nov. 9, a caller anonymously reported that a deer was hit and needed to be dispatched on Highway 197. A deputy responded. “Upon walking up to the deer it took off running on all four legs,” they noted in logs. “Lost visual after that.”

Oregon State Police, Nov. 13 - 17

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (two), elude (one), reckless driving (one).

Notable incidents

One injury vehicle crash. One person was injured in a three-vehicle crash that occurred on I-84 Nov. 13. Two motorhomes and a blue Ford pickup were traveling together in the slow lane near milepost 105 eastbound, at about 2 p.m. The front motorhome started to sputter, so it slowed to about 50 mph. The other motorhome and Ford also slowed. Meanwhile, a white Dodge Caravan with California license plates was in the slow lane behind the caravan of vehicles, and it ran into the back of the Ford, which then pushed it into the back of the second motorhome. The Dodge Caravan and the Ford sustained heavy damage. The motorhome had minor damage. The Dodge Caravan and Ford were towed; the driver of the Dodge Caravan was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. Two drivers received citations.

Two DUII arrests. In one incident, a trooper observed a vehicle speeding on I-84 near Hood River. In overtaking the vehicle, they observed reckless driving, including a median strike which blew out a tire. The vehicle attempted to elude the trooper, who pursued the vehicle until it came to a stop, likely due to a missing wheel. The driver was cited and released for three charges.

A stolen silver Ford was recovered from Mayer State park Nov. 15.

A trooper observed a small dark sedan driving at night without headlights and attempted a traffic stop on Nov. 16. The sedan drove up a private driveway and the driver exited the vehicle and walked out of sight. The vehicle then rolled down the driveway and came to an uncontrolled rest, still on private property. The trooper talked to a passenger, who also exited the vehicle at that point, but who refused to provide any information on the driver.
