Hood River Police, Dec. 15 - 21
The following charges resulted in arrests: Criminal mischief (one), DUII (one), driving while suspended (one), reckless driving (one), theft (four), trespass (two), warrant (one).
Notable incidents
Five theft reports. Shoplifting (four) and item from restaurant.
Five non-injury vehicle crashes. In one, officers gave a citation for unsafe passing on the left, to a driver at fault for a collision.
Two trespass arrests. In one, a transient person was cited and released for visiting a place they’d previously stolen from.
Two fraud reports. A resident was asked money to an unknown business. Another sent money to an unknown person under false pretenses.
Officers were dispatched to seven welfare checks, two at the same address within a 24-hour period.

Notable incidents
Twenty animal calls. Dogs at large, barking, fighting, carrying their dead puppy, injured, allegedly neglected, missing. Separately, an “aggressive” deer “charged” at someone in their W. Seventh Street yard. The uninjured deer was examined and dispatched (killed) and removed by Public Works. Separately, deer hit by car, dispatched and removed on W. 10th.
An unattended death.
A hit-and-run report. Stop sign at E. 10th/Dry Hollow.
Five mental health calls.
Three theft reports. Electric scooter, tools from vehicle, shoplifting.

Notable incidents
Five non-injury crashes. Dec. 21, Subaru Outback left its lane and hit snowbank on Highway 34, milepost 72 northbound. The car continued down the snow, tipped, rolled, and stopped, blocking the lane. Dec. 21, Subaru Legacy went too fast for conditions on Rowena Loops, left road and went into some rocks. Dec. 22, truck and trailer lost control on US-97, over-corrected, spun and collided, blocking the lane — but could be driven from the scene. Dec. 22, Mazda SUV went too fast for conditions on I-84, spun and hit the guardrail.
Dec. 21, driver stopped for speeding 80 mph on I-84, cited and released for unlawful possession of two handguns and a lot of ammunition. Firearms placed in evidence.
Two DUII arrests, both involving controlled substances.
On Dec. 26, a tree fell and blocked both lanes of I-84 near milepost 42 eastbound. A semi-truck struck the tree, followed by an SUV. No one was injured. ODOT helped clear the hazard from I-84, and both vehicles were towed.
