Hood River Police, Feb. 16 - 23
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Criminal mischief (one), DUII (three), driving while suspended (two), drug law violation (two), felon in possession of a weapon (one), theft (one), warrant (one).
Notable incidents
Three theft reports. Items from a motor vehicle (two incidents), shoplifting, and $2,000 in cash stolen from a business. In one incident, a non-resident person was arrested on charges of theft (shoplifting) and driving while suspended.
Three DUII arrests. In one incident, a Washington resident was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance. In the same incident, another person was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a schedule II substance and unlawful possession of methamphetamine.
Two warrant arrests. A local person was arrested on charges of felon in possession of a weapon and two warrants.
One non-injury vehicle crash. One driver was issued a citation for dangerous left turn.
Officers responded to an unattended death.
Officers took a report of a stolen vehicle.
A burglary was reported from a local business.
The Dalles Police, Feb. 16 - 23
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: escape (one), theft (one), trespass (two), warrant (two).
Notable incidents
Eleven animal calls. Dogs at large, dog welfare checks, alleged animal abuse, dog struck by vehicle, lost dog, alleged dog attack.
Ten theft reports. In one incident, an individual was given a court date after a grab-and-run theft from a Sixth Street business. Other incidents included items from vehicles (two incidents), shoplifting, round paving stones from a Twelfth Street property (allegedly two incidents), fifth channel of vodka from Mt. Hood Street address, washing machine, ID card.
A local stolen vehicle was identified in Lebanon.
Officers assisted Wasco County with a vehicle pursuit that began near Starlight Street. A silver Subaru attempted to elude at speeds of 75 mph, but slowed down south of Chenowith Creek and ended with one occupant at gunpoint. They were taken into custody.
Six mental health calls.
A sign was knocked down by a driver attempting a U-turn near Eight Street and Vey Way, according to a caller. A report was taken.
One vehicle crash report. A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Hostetler Street Feb. 20. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue also responded. The suspect was located on scene.
Wasco County Sheriff, Feb. 16 - 23
Notable incidents
Seven animal calls. Welfare checks on dogs and chickens, missing dogs, dogs at large, dog chasing sheep. In one incident, a deputy dispatched and removed a raccoon that was struck by a car and laying in the road. In another, a grey pig and a white pig roamed Browns Creek together.
One vehicle pursuit. An individual was arrested on a warrant out of Sherman County, after a vehicle chase that began near Starlight Street a and ended less than 10 minutes later with “One ... at gunpoint,” according to logs. Three deputies responded after the vehicle fled toward Chenowith Creek. The Dalles Police also took a case number. The person was arrested and lodged at NORCOR.
Two vehicle crashes. An eastbound vehicle with two passengers missed a turn on Wamic Market Road, knocked out tow road signs, and came to rest 20 feet down a bank, rolling onto the driver’s side. Both passengers, one of whom sustained an injury, were able to exit vehicle, which was towed. Both were transported to an area hospital. It appeared the driver was going too fast for the extremely slick conditions and falling snow. A Glock was collected from the scene by a deputy, for safekeeping. In another incident, a driver crashed into a Fallon Way ditch, damaging a road sign. There were no injuries.
A “small bush on fire” on West Sixth incited a Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue response, turned out to be a safely made and tended warming fire, and was disregarded.
An incident regarding fraud was documented.
A 500-pound boulder was discovered blocking an eastbound lane of Wamic Market Road.
Oregon State Police, Feb. 16 - 22
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Criminal mischief (one), disorderly conduct (one), driving while suspended or revoked (one), DUII (two), reckless driving (two).
Notable incidents
Three non-injury vehicle crashes. In one incident, a vehicle crashed into a guardrail on Highway 35, breaking 11 posts. The vehicle was going too fast for conditions, and lost control near milepost 74 southbound. In another, a couple from Moses Lake, Wash., were driving a white Chevy Silverado pickup eastbound on I-84, too close behind a blue Honda Pilot containing a Post Falls, Ida., resident and their five children. Nearby, cars passing a couple of commercial motor vehicles were kicking up a lot of rainwater when an unknown vehicle hit the brakes in front of the Honda. The Moses Lake driver was unable to stop and rear-ended the Honda. The Chevy was towed, and the Honda was driven from the scene — after the five kids were educated on proper use of safety belts, and given booster seats.
A driver was arrested on three charges after allegedly ramming a red Chevy pickup parked on SE Wasco Street, Cascade Locks, near Bridge of the Gods. A trooper responded to the incident on Sunday at about 3:30 a.m., and confirmed by multiple witness statements that the driver had rammed an unoccupied and parked vehicle multiple times with their dark green Volkswagen Jet. The victim’s vehicle was heavily damaged and was towed. The suspect was lodged at NORCOR.
One injury vehicle crash. The driver of a Chevy Suburban lost control on snow/slush near milepost 49, US 97. The Chevy rotated counterclockwise across the northbound lane, left the shoulder, and rolled onto its passenger side. The driver was transported to an area medical center by ambulance for minor injuries. The vehicle was towed.
OSP met with the operators of a fish-selling business on the right shoulder of US-30 near the Bridge of the Gods in Cascade Locks Feb. 21. The business sells fish from the sidewalk. ODOT has asked the business to discontinue operating from the ODOT right of way. Upon OSP arrival, the vehicle associated with the business was legally parked along the curb. There was a table set up on the sidewalk, and signs displayed notifying potential customers of the business. The subjects were asked to move their operation from the ODOT right of way into the parking lot, but they refused to do so, citing that they have been selling fish at the location for hundreds of years. They reported having the authority of their tribe to sell fish at the location. Since the business was legally parked and not creating a hazard, no enforcement action was taken. ODOT was provided with information regarding OSP’s contact with the business and will decide how they want to proceed with the issue.
A 38-year-old homeless person from Yakima stole a gray Toyota, hit a guardrail, broke down on the shoulder of I-84, got the car running again, then stopped in the middle of the B lane near milepost 89 Westbound and was clipped by another car. The stolen Toyota was side-swiped by a GMC Yukon. An OSP sergeant assisted the 71-year-old driver from Richland to change the Yukon's rear tire after the crash, and the Yukon was driven from the scene. The driver of the Toyota was arrested for DUII and unauthorized use of motor vehicle and transported to an area hospital, a search warrant was obtained for blood/urine. They were cleared at the hospital and lodged at NORCOR, the vehicle towed.
