Notable incidents

Two non-injury vehicle crashes, both in White Salmon. In one incident, officers assisted with getting vehicle back on roadway. Investigation is ongoing in the other incident.

A chimney fire was reported in White Salmon on Dec. 9.

An ongoing DUII investigation was reported in Bingen.

A semi became stuck in snow in White Salmon, and was reported as a traffic hazard and towed.

One warrant arrest. An adult person was arrested for a court order violation in White Salmon.

Two theft reports from Bingen and one from White Salmon, investigations ongoing.

One animal call. A dog at large in White Salmon was impounded.

One criminal mischief report from White Salmon.

Hood River Sheriff, Nov. 1 - Nov. 30

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (three), harassment (one), menacing (one), probation violation (one), reckless driving (two), restraining order violation (two), trespass (one), warrant (five).

Notable incidents

One hit and run report.

Four non-injury vehicle crashes. In one incident, a two-vehicle crash took place on Odell Highway and Dethman Ridge. In another, a cold crash with property damage was reported on Country Club Road. In a third, a northbound vehicle went off the road into a ditch near Parkdale, and flipped.

A deputy investigated arson at the Oak Ridge Trailhead. The case was referred to detectives.

Deputies responded to four unattended deaths.

A physical altercation was reported at Hood River.

While driving through Cascade Locks, a passenger threatened a vehicle’s driver with a sharp tool before fleeing the vehicle. The incident was referred to another police agency.

Six theft reports. Incidents included a truck bumper and plate from Highway 35, identity theft and theft at Sherwood Campground. In one incident, a deputy received an online report regarding theft by deception in which a victim sent $200 to an online scam.

Stolen property was found and recovered at Stadelman Drive on Nov. 21. In a separate incident, deputies received a call that an individual had located some of their stolen property and wanted law enforcement assistance in retrieving it; they were referred to another agency.

One report of a possible stolen vehicle from Forest Lane, Cascade Locks.

A deputy took a non-criminal report of a found CO2 handgun, located along Highway 35, on Nov. 12.

A reporting party misplaced a Glock G43X 9mm while target shooting at Neal Creek, and reported it lost.

One vandalism report. A car was taken and vandalized on Forest Lane, Cascade Locks.

Two criminal mischief reports.

A resident turned in a passport they found in the parking lot of a restaurant.

Hood River Police, Dec. 3 - 9

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (four), drug law violation (one), stalking order violation (one), theft (four), trespass (three), warrant (three).

Notable incidents

Five theft reports. Shoplifting (two incidents), items stolen from a transient person about a month prior, theft of services, and a spoiler being stolen off a vehicle parked at Walmart.

An information report was taken for a stolen car, later found and returned to its registered owner.

Four DUII arrests. In one incident, a local resident was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of methamphetamine.

Four vehicle crashes, three with injuries. In one incident, officers responded to Walmart regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian crash.

Three warrant arrests. In one incident, an adult person was arrested and lodged at NORCOR on charges of theft and two outstanding warrants issued by Washington and Clackamas counties.

An individual was arrested for multiple warrants. It was later discovered they had already served time for both warrants, but the warrants were not yet removed from the system; and the person was released.

Officers cited and released a resident for a stalking order violation.

The Dalles Police, Dec. 8 - 15

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Assault (one), detainer (one), DUII (one), escape (one), harassment (one), menacing (one), robbery (one), theft (one), trespass (one), unauthorized use of motor vehicle (one), warrant (five).

Notable incidents

One hit and run report. A white pickup backed into a vehicle on Federal Street, according to the reporting party.

One vehicle crash report. A vehicle versus pedestrian crash took place on West Sixth on Dec. 14. Officers located an individual lying on the street. Medics arrived and quickly stabilized the person, who had been riding an electric bike when they cut in front of a westbound Toyota Camry on Sixth. The vehicle struck the electric bike. The person was transported to an area hospital.

One robbery report. A robbery took place at a business on E. Fourth Street on Dec. 11, and ended in an arrest, according to logs. The suspect allegedly attempted to pepper-spray an employee in the course of “trying to steal stuff,” the reporting party stated. It was initially unknown if the three individuals involved succeeded in taking any items. Officers responded, located the individuals involved, and discovered the merchandise. They confirmed the employee had been physically shoved. One individual was arrested for robbery II, harassment and menacing.

One burglary report, from Fifteenth Street.

One stolen vehicle. A silver Toyota Camry sedan was stolen from Webber Street over the weekend and drove away on a full tank of gas. It was relocated on West Sixth Street. Officers detained the single occupant and gun point. They were arrested for unauthorized use of motor vehicle and lodged at NORCOR. The vehicle was recovered.

Ten mental health calls.

Five theft reports. Incidents included identity theft, shoplifting, theft of power, theft of Amazon packages.

Fourteen animal calls. Dogs at large, barking dogs, walk-in report of livestock being killed, dog killing 13 chickens, missing dog, injured dog. In one incident, an allegedly abandoned dog was released to its owner and ordered to be out of the city by midnight and not return, due to a court order. In another, a person allegedly stole a cat from Seventh Street and attempted to ransom it back for $500. This was posted on social media and screenshots were obtained.

Two vandalism reports. A store on Mt Hood Street was vandalized “again,” according to the reporting party, with a gas line cut and gas siphoned at a cost of $112 to fix. No video or suspect information. In another incident, business dumpsters were broken into and fencing cut and broken on Mt. Hood Street.

One criminal mischief report, for graffiti applied to a building on Twelfth Street.

An individual discovered a green power saw hidden under their boat, and reported it as suspicious.

Wasco County Sheriff, Dec. 8 - 15

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Warrant (one).

Notable incidents

One vehicle crash. A single vehicle crashed on Fifteenmile Road Dec. 8. The driver and single occupant, who showed no obvious signs of injury, said their brakes failed and they lost control on the icy road. The vehicle came to rest blocking one lane, tires up.

Four theft reports. Fraudulent use of a credit card, and theft of a snowmobile trailer. In one incident, numerous mailboxes on Cherry Heights, Browns Creek and Chenowith Creek Road were opened and gone through. Newspapers and opened Amazon boxes were on the ground. A second caller state mail was scattered along Brown’s Creek and Chenowith. Later calls were received regarding open mailboxes at Four Corners and additional mailboxes on Chenowith and Browns Creek, and one caller found their neighbor’s opened mail.

A vehicle on Mosier Creek Place was broken into and items taken.

Eight animal calls. Black pitbull chasing children through a Celilo Village neighborhood, dog hit by vehicle, dogs at large. In one incident, 20 or 30 sheep were at large on Dufur Valley Road, allegedly a traffic hazard.

Oregon State Police, Dec. 8 - 15

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (four).

Notable incidents

Two hit-and-run crashes. In one incident, troopers responded to a rollover crash on I-84 on Dec. 11. They located a white 1995 Chevy utility truck on its side. No one was located in or around the truck, although several beer cans were resting in and round the vehicle. A trooper contacted the owner, who was evasive with questioning and reported the truck had been stolen out of Portland. Investigation is ongoing. In another incident, a trooper and Hood River County deputies responded to a report of a hit and run with damage to a CenturyLink telecom box.

Two non-injury vehicle crashes. In one incident, a silver Subaru Forester hydroplaned on I-84 near milepost 80.5 westbound, lost control and struck the center divider. It was towed. In another incident, a vehicle was damaged after driving over debris on I-84, Sherman County.

A Fish & Game Trooper received an anonymous tip on Dec. 8, regarding a person who took a bobcat without a valid 2023 furtaker’s license. A photo of the suspect possessing the bobcat was obtained, and a records check through the ODFW licensing department showed that they indeed didn’t have a furtaker’s license. The suspect was interviewed and admitted to taking the bobcat with a live trap. The bobcat was then illegally tagged on another hunter’s harvest card. The suspect was issued a criminal citation, and the second person involved was issued a violation citation. The bobcat was seized.

A trooper received information of a wild steelhead taken on the John Day River from the OSP TIP line. They contacted the person who posted this on social media. The person said they’d caught the fish at the Priest Hold in mid-September and it had already been consumed. The person was ultimately given a violation citation, warnings, and educated.
