Charges — June 22-28, Hood River police charged people with DUII (one), theft (three), warrant (three). June 25 to July 2, Oregon State Police charged people with DUII (four), warrant (two). Other agencies don’t log arrests.
A death — recorded on E. 10th, The Dalles, June 26.
Crime in The Dalles — One sex crime logged. At least three logs of domestic violence. One log about suicide.
Assaults — Five assault logs in The Dalles last week.
Drugs — A drug incident on W. 10th, The Dalles.
One — mental health call from The Dalles.
Burglary — logged on N. Lake View Road on June 28.
Catch ‘em if you can — A pursuit was logged on Clark and 12th Street on June 30, following an attempted vehicle stop. Another pursuit was logged on W. Seventh and Pomona on June 30, by the same deputy.
Injury crashes — logged by Oregon State police last week. A lone motorcycle rolled several times on Hwy 197 near milepost 8, after a mechanical malfunction. The operator was transported to a hospital. Two vehicles hit a barrier on I-84 eastbound near milepost 57, blocking the lane, after a driver hit the gas instead of brakes; that driver got minor injuries.
Fire crash — On July 2, a big brush fire near milepost 131 westbound on I-84 made “extremely smoky” conditions, shutting I-84 in both directions. A Dodge stopped for the closure and got hit by a Ford who didn’t see it; one Ford passenger was taken to a hospital by family.
Geese crash — On June 26, OSP troopers were fetching several road-struck geese from both lanes of I-84 when a Camaro slowed for the geese and got struck from behind by a Ford Focus. The Ford’s driver suffered minor injuries, and the other driver a citation.
BB gun — On Thursday at about 5:14 p.m., Wasco County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) got an emergency call from the 3800 block of W. 10th, The Dalles. The caller said a vehicle had crashed, the driver was not able to leave, and the passenger possibly had a firearm. Oregon State Police responded to assist. The 36-year-old passenger was detained in an Irvine Street driveway, carrying what turned out to be a BB gun.
Minor crime — Two minors were cited, one for possession of alcohol and the other marijuana, after a state trooper caught them driving down I-84 with those substances.
Thefts and fraud — The Dalles logged 17 thefts last week: Stolen vehicles on E. Eighth, W. 10th. Thefts elsewhere: W. Sixth (two), W. 10th (two), Union, Wasco Drive, W. Seventh, E. 11th. Theft from vehicles on E. 14th, E. 10th, W. Sixth, all June 30. Fraud (five). Wasco County logged two: Chenowith Creek, Rock Creek campground.
Three thefts — reported by Hood River police last week: Two shopliftings, and a gold chain stolen from around the neck of a person at the Walmart parking lot. One of the shoplifting suspects was a houseless person, stealing from Safeway, who was later lodged at NORCOR by their probation officer. The other shoplifting suspect was also later lodged on a probation violation detainer and two counts theft III.
Crashes — Seven vehicle crash logs in The Dalles last week: Verdant, Union, W. Sixth, W. Ninth, E. 12th (two), W. Second streets. June 22-28, Hood River had two non-injury crashes at Second and State streets and the Safeway parking lot. Wasco County added four on W. 10th, First Avenue, milepost 87.5 on Highway 30, Ross and Wamic Market roads.
Drunk — A DUII logged on W. 10th June 26, another on the 85 overpass same day in The Dalles.
Critters — 16 dogs, four other critters in The Dalles last week. Wasco County tallied 11 critters, nine of them dogs.
Drone — A drone deployment was logged on E. Ninth, The Dalles, June 27.
Non-injury crash — A semi truck rear-ended a tow-truck which had stopped for mechanical issues on the shoulder of I-84.
Trailer fire — A commercial trailer caught fire due to an overheated axle bearing near Exit 62 on I-84, and the driver stopped, partly blocking the road. Fire personnel put the fire out and the trailer was moved.
