Parkdale teacher wins ‘Math Excellence Award’

TEACHER Shannon Monroe accepts a regional math award and congratulatory mug from Superintendent Dan Goldman at last week’s School Board meeting.

The Oregon Council of Teachers of Mathematics presented Shannon Monroe with the Math Excellence Award for Area 12 at last week’s School Board meeting. Every year the council selects an outstanding teacher from different areas of Oregon. Area 12 includes the Gorge from Cascade Locks to Arlington.

“Monroe teaches third grade at Parkdale Elementary School (and) models lifelong learning,” said Jane Osborne, district math coach. “She is always eager to learn, attending conferences and reading information to help her teaching and to help others.”
