MOSIER — Mosier Grange Extension Group dedicated a hibiscus bush June 1 in memory of two members who have recently passed away.
Extension group member Norma Simpson died last year while visiting family in Texas. Then member Glenna McCargar passed away this spring.

Simpson was an avid reader and regular at the Mosier Library, and McCargar, a Mosier librarian. The group thought a tribute at the library in honor of both women would be a fitting memorial, said Extension Group member Susan Conklin.
Attending the unveiling of a plaque near the hibiscus were McCargar’s husband Ed and sons Kelly and Morgan; Susie Erwin, a friend of Simpson’s since fourth grade, represented the Simpson family. Also present were Jan Leininger, who shared Mosier history; Mayor Witt Anderson, and past Mosier Mayor Marc Berry, along with other friends of both women. Ravi Moore, son of Zan and Aurora Moore, read the quote upon the unveiling.
David Cutler carved the 10-inch by 10-inch granite stone with the quote, “Libraries always remind me that there are good things in the world” by Lauren Ward. Extension members served homemade cookies and handed out bookmarks with the quote printed on them, Conklin said.
Mosier American Legion, which owns the library property, worked with the extension group in granting permission for the planting. The City of Mosier will maintain the watering of the hibiscus.
