FOREST SERVICE interviewers with Mt. Hood National Forest, clad in bright orange vests, will be conducting visitor surveys starting in October.
Photo courtesy of Mt. Hood National ForestStarting this month, forest visitors on Mount Hood will see interviewers working at recreation sites and along Forest Service roads. The trained interviewers will want to know about your visit to the Mt. Hood National Forest.
All of the information you provide will be confidential and the survey is voluntary. No names or identifying information will be requested. Interviewers will be wearing bright orange vests and will be located near a sign that says “Traffic Survey Ahead”.
The Forest Service said they gather other important information through surveys, such as the economic impacts of recreation visitors on the local economy. “Many communities hope that tourism will strengthen their local economies and this is one way to estimate these effects,” the Forest Service said.
Survey results provide the Forest managers with an estimate of how many people actually recreate on federal lands and what activities they engage in while there. State-level planers and Congress also utilize this information to help them identify needs.
The same survey is conducted on every national forest in the country every five years. On the Mt. Adams side, forest officials will also be conducting surveys.
