THE DALLES — Mom Prom will return for a third time on June 29, and is seeking donations from local business to support a local family battling illness.
Established in April 2015 as a fundraising event for a little girl named Lila May Schow, who was suffering from neuroblastoma, the first Mom Prom raised over $10,000 for Schow and her family. Since then, two other mom proms, held in 2016 and 2018 by volunteers in our community, raised another $10,000 to help local families battling devastating illnesses.
The Dalles Moose Lodge 2075, in collaboration with the Last Stop Saloon, is bringing Mom Prom back this year for a 21-and-over event and the ticket cost will include a fun night of dinner, dessert, music and dancing, auction and raffle, plus an after party at the Moose Lodge with karaoke.
The 2024 recipient is three-year-old Valeria Alvarez, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in January 2024. She is currently undergoing weekly chemotherapy at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.
The organizers are seeking donations from local business: monetary donations, items for silent auction, gift cards for other fundraising events leading up to the prom, and items like food, tables and chairs.
Monetary donations in the form of a check can be made out to The Dalles Moose Lodge 2075 with “Mom Prom 2024” in the subject line. Cash donations are also accepted. The Moose Lodge Tax ID number is 93-0552554. Sponsors will be acknowledged throughout the three-month campaign, on social media and radio, and at the event.
