The Oregon State Parks and Recreation Commission has awarded a grant to construct a new playground at the Mount Hood Town Hall, a project that volunteers have been working toward for years.
The new playground with provide children in the Upper Valley with new and safer ways to play and is another major step in the restoration of the Town Hall and its grounds.
“A requirement of this grant is to have a significant volunteer contribution during construction,” said board member Bob Danko. “The Town Hall board is hoping that when the time comes, community members will respond to our call for help.”
The board is hoping the installation of the new playground will be this fall.
The Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation Department and Hood River County were instrumental in obtaining the grant.
With the first day of school less than two weeks away, the Parkdale Elementary School staff would like parents to know what is required for students the first week of school.
During the first week of school teachers will be collecting a $25 fee per student for all the classroom supplies they are purchasing and will be using throughout the school year.
Though parents don’t need to purchase classroom supplies, they do need to make sure their children have tennis shoes for PE, and parents of fifth-grade students will need to make sure their child has a solar calculator.
Kindergarten students need to bring a white T-shirt and an old shirt to be used while painting.
The school staff asks that all student items be labeled with their name.
