League highlights
Industrial (Monday, 7 p.m.): Joey Sheirbon: 247; Chris Huff: 244; Lynn Spellman: 237
3 Fingers Deep (Ryan Pratt, Jay Slack, and James Youtsey) ran away from the field to win round one, which ended last week. The Fingers gang won with 165.5 points. Pat’s Pro Shop was a distant second with 136.5 points. Clear Cutters finished third with 135 points. Congratulations to 3 Fingers Deep — by winning round one, they earn a top seed in the Industrial league’s unique bracket tournament, to be conducted at season’s end, which will ultimately decide the league champion. Their round-one win gives them a distinct advantage to win.
Joey Sheirbon led all scoring in the Industrial last week with a 644 three-game series. Ted Rosenberg rolled a workmanlike 631 set last week, which was his first 600 of the season in the Industrial. In so doing, Ted beat his average by 103 pins which was the best individual effort by all bowlers in the Industrial last week.
Tuesday Nite Mixed (Tuesday, 7 p.m.): Patrick Olson: 277, 267, 756; Jeremy Bloom: 265, 242, 731; Jeff Hasegawa: 236
Hood River Supply (Lynn Davis, Gary Bond, Sue Eskildsen, and Woody Eskildsen) won the featured match of the evening, three games to one against Are You Splitting Me, which extended their first-place lead to three games over Team Nishi and Who Gives a Split.
Hood River Supply now has 22 wins, whereas Team Nishi and Who Gives a Split are tied for second place with 19 wins. Crunch time is just around the corner, as there are only three weeks to go in the first half of the league. Basically, seven teams still can win it. It’s just a matter of who gets hot or who gets tough in the remaining matches.
In the next two weeks, Hood River Supply will bowl critical matches against Team Nishi and Mad Skilz, two of the most formidable squads in the league. Those contests will test Supply with all they can handle. We’ll see if they have what it takes to be the first-half winner.
Mad Skilz and Take Ten swept their opponents last week, 4-0. Mad Skilz beat Team Kawachi and Take Ten topped Split Faced. All-star Jeremy Bloom and Bob Mason were hot for Mad Skilz. Jeremy turned on his automatic strike switch once again as he pounded the pins with a slick 731 series (Team of the Week), which was capped by a big 265 game. And teammate Bob Mason rolled his first 600 series of the season, a cool 612 which was 147 pins over his average. Brandon Sanchez did his best to stem the Mad Skilz’ pin busters as he topped his average by 154 pins for Team Kawachi, the most by all bowlers in the Mixed — but it was to no avail, as Skilz was just too much this time.
The remaining matches all went 3-1. Who Gives a Split pounded Team Nishi behind the talented Olson brothers, Pat racked up a huge 756 series (Team of the Week), and Nathan, who has been rolling 600 sets lately like nobody’s business, chipped in with a 626 set, which was also his first 600 of the season in the Mixed; and CPR flattened Taco Tuesday.
Senior Colts and Fillies (Wednesday, 1:30 p.m.): Mick Sherrell: 278, 210, 659; Lynn Spellman: 217, 205, 601; Dick Sherrell: 212; Ken Kramer: 209; Phil Wilson: 206
Rolling Pins (Patsy Busick, Ed Busick, and Phil Wilson), Skamaniacs (Karen Baumsteiger, Janet Harrington, and Dave Baumsteiger), and 2 Pair (Linda Green, Jim Green, Michael Ross, and Vicki Ross) are all tied for first place with 25 wins each. These leaders got locked up in first place because Skamaniacs beat Rice Krispies 3-1, 2 Pair got all four wins and Rolling Pins split with Awesome 3.
Mick Sherrell starred in the senior league last week for Jesse’s Team. Mick put together an 11-strike first game for a gaudy, near-perfect 278 and continued in the zone, finishing up with a beautiful 659 series — his highest set of the season. It’s no wonder Jesse’s Team overwhelmed Cousins, who took it on the chin, losing 4-0.
Fraternal (Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.): Chad Mason: 247, 238, 713; Lynn Spellman: 278, 700; AJ Perdue: 279, 698; Josh Worth: 269, 690; Rob Miller: 277, 653; Jeremy Bloom: 276; John Helm: 250; Tyson Trout: 248; Mike Parke: 247; Patrick Olson: 244; Luke Renfro: 243; Ciena Brittle: 231, 210; Bernie Keys: 207
Tres Psicos, (Skip Whitley, George Buck, and James Klugel) won the first round of the competitive Fraternal league with 160 points. Mt. Hood BBQ finished second, with 147.5 points and the MDs got third with 146.5 points. Overall, things were relatively close in the first round but only the winner matters, as the Tres Psicos now qualify to be in the roll off for the championship of the Fraternal league to be held at the end of the season.
Congratulations to the victors! The second round begins this week.
To win the first round, the Tres Psicos had a big lead going into their final match, so all they had to do was show up against the MDs, which they did. The MDs beat them 17-8, but winning those eight points were all the Tres Psicos needed to take round one. Lynn Spellman gave it his best for the MD’s in the match, logging a 700 series (Team of the Week), right on the nose.
Lynn’s 700 was 100 pins over his average for the night, which shows he came to play, but it just wasn’t enough as Skip Whitley finished with a 632 series and teammate James Klugel had a 623 for the Tres Psicos. Those two solid outings were plenty good enough for Tres Psicos to take round one.
In other Fraternal league action, Chad Mason rattled the sticks to the tune of a 713 series (Team of the Week) for The Bowling Stones and teammate Nate Olson rolled his second 600 series of the season in the Fraternal with a steady 610 set.
Big AJ Perdue continued his mastery over the sticks with a solid 698 series (Team of the Week) for Ten in the Pit, who clipped Orchard Lanes.
Orchard Lanes staffer Josh Worth muscled a big 690 series for Hood River Athletic Club as they wiped Electronic Assemblers.
And Rob Miller punched out a 653 series to lead his Get Hu’sum BBQ trio to a convincing win over The Red Rockets.
Thursday County League: Victor Flores: 263; Gordon Pillon: 224; Rod Pratt: 206
The Incredibowls (Rod Pratt, Yoyo Cervantes, and Matt Stoneberg) kept their two-game lead in first place last week as they split the featured match with second-place The Unbowleiveables.
In the other matches last week, The Munsons blanked Gutter Girls 4-0; The BowLeeAnders took down Save the Pins 3.5-.5, as did Over the Line against Holy Rollers; Split Happens beat Pins in Low Places 2.5-1.5 despite the admirable effort of Gordon Pillon, who tallied a 224 game for the low Pins crew; and Lady Ballers managed a split with BS-ers, even though Victor Flores was lights out for the BS-ers with a big 263 game.
Let’s GO BOWLING everyone!
