The MTS and Orchard Lanes teams prevailed in the unique Monday night Industrial league championship bracket tournament and will bowl against each other for the title this week. To get to this point, these two teams have not lost in the tournament so far.
The championship match between Orchard Lanes and MTS should be a good one. These two teams are evenly matched. The usual sticking point in these battles is the handicap difference. In this match there is only an 8-pin difference per game in handicap between the two teams with the slim advantage going to Orchard Lanes.
Here are the results of the “final four” team matches that were held last week: MTS against Pat’s Pro Shop and Orchard Lanes vs. The Rollers.
MTS continued their Cinderella run for another title by eliminating the powerful favorite, Pats Pro Shop, 1,940-1,720 in the total pins three-game match. It was a low scoring contest. MTS ended up just 14 pins over their team average for the three games, whereas the Pro Shop was 248 sticks below their averages! Goes to show this great game can be brutal to even the best bowlers and underdogs can win.
Orchard Lanes didn’t have any trouble with stubborn pins in their match against The Rollers. The Orchard Lanes crew was 151 pins over their averages as they crushed The Rollers 2,107-1,918. Everyone on the Orchard Lanes trio contributed to the win as all-star Nancy Asai popped a lofty 245 game, Carl Casey’s new ball (the pearl “M+M Hustle by Roto Grip”) worked beautifully to the tune of a 236 game and orchardist Ken Kramer joined in on the pin-busting, tossing a 234 game. The Rollers bowled under their averages although Kevin Harris led them with a fine 236 game, but they were no match for the hot Orchard Lanes squad this time.
We will report who the Industrial league champion is next week. Here’s the individual high scores in the Industrial league for the 2023-24 bowling season: High average, men: Patrick Olson 221; women: Nancy Asai 187; High three game series, men: Patrick Olson 758; women: Nancy Asai 673; High game, men: Rod Pratt 280; women: Nancy Asai 276; Most individual points won: Joey Sheirbon 46.5
As always, at this time we want to thank every one of you who bowled in the scrappy Industrial league during the 2023-24 season. It’s a great league! We miss you already.
Orchard Lanes will once again conduct “Challenge Nights” this summer in which different oil patterns will be put down. Some will be easy, and some will be hard. Consider trying them to evaluate your bowling game. Can you make the pins dance on these oil patterns like you did on the easy one that was used all season in your league at Orchard Lanes?
