Kegler's Corner: Star of the Week: Victor Flores

Monday Night Industrial league:

Round three began last week. Here are the teams who started out strong.

Mt. Hood BBQ smoked The Rollers, 19-6, as Tyson Trout led the grillers with a 605 series. The BBQ-ers routed the second-round winners by 226 pins total, which could have been even worse but for Kevin Harris’ finishing 222 game which salvaged six points for The Rollers, who won the third game by just 11 sticks.

MTS topped Clear Cutters, 18-7, behind the pin-busting resurgence of Steve Byers, who fired big 255 and 226 games. Clear Cutters’ main man, Rod Pratt, did his best to stem the tide, rolling two 223 games in the match.

Team No. 2 beat OL’7-10, 18-7, mainly due to the return of lanky anchorman Matt Hodges, who jumped out of the gate with great 248 and 245 games.

3 Fingers Deep thumped Randy’s Painting, 17-8. And Pat’s Pro Shop disassembled Hood River Supply, 16-9, as sponsor and proprietor Pat Olson crunched the sticks with a lofty 264 game and 712 series.

Tuesday Nite Mixed League:

With only four weeks to go in the league’s second half, there’s been a lot of flip-flopping going on, but CPR (Sandy Holmes, Coral Worth, Dan Nakamura and Steve Silva) rose into first place with 19 wins, thanks to a 4-0 sweep of Split Faced last week.

In other key matches last week, Erin Salisbury’s 200 game powered Double A Orchards move to second place with 18 wins, after a 3-1 win over Taco Tuesday.

And Mad Skilz nudged into third place with 16 wins after spanking Are You Splitting Me 3-1, thanks to Jeremy Bloom’s syrupy-smooth strike-filled 246 game and 676 series.

Wednesday afternoon senior Colts & Fillies league: Skamaniacs (Karen Baumsteiger, Janet Harrington and Dave Baumsteiger) and We Tried (Barb Johnson, Anne Brady and Neil Johnson) are still tied for first place with 16 wins.

Jesse’s Team is in third place with 15 wins. Mick Sherrell was the big man on campus last week for Jesse’s Team, as he rolled a nice 214 game.

We’ve got a long way to go in the second half, so every team can still win it all.

Wednesday night Fraternal league:

We’re also just under way in the third round of the Fraternal.

The top teams after the first week are: Hood River Athletic Club, who beat Ten in the Pit 18.5 to 6.5; Orchard Lanes, who thumped MD’s 18-7; and Mt. Hood BBQ, who out-cooked their cohorts, Get Hu’Sum BBQ, 17-8.

The Hood River Athletic Club versus Ten in the Pit match was a lot closer than the wide outcome. The bottom line: Burley HR Club anchorman Josh Worth proved too much for Ten in the Pit as he posted a solid 654 series. However, Ten in the Pit stars Albert Frelix and John Helm were not intimidated.

Albert tossed a fine 237 game and John stroked a cool 236 in the match and if you check the game by game team scores, these two teams finished up only 18 pins apart with the Clubbers taking the all-important four points for total pins. It could have easily gone the other way.

Mega hook artist Jeff Brittle led Orchard Lanes to their match win over MD’s with a good 653 series that was highlighted by a big 258 game.

It might look like Mt. Hood BBQ easily won their match against Get Hu’Sum BBQ, but Hu’Sum’s fire-balling anchorman Stan Pratnicki wasn’t a pushover. He blasted a mighty fine 255 game and a devilishly good 666 series in this contest.

And, finally, kudos to Nancy Asai, who racked up a solid 230 game for Electronic Assemblers. That 230 was the highest game for all women in all leagues at Orchard Lanes last week.

Thursday afternoon County league:

After five weeks in the second half, The Munsons (Dane Backman, Tommy Hood and Jay Slack) are still in first place with 16 wins. The Lady Ballers moved into second with 14 wins.

With six weeks to go in the second half, all 12 of the feisty, never-give-up teams are in it to win it.

Highlights in last week’s matches:

Victor Flores turned in The Star of the Week performance for the BS-ers in their match against the powerhouse Incredibowls. Victor shot stellar 245 and 205 games on his way to a nice 611 series, leading his trio to a 3-1 win over the powerful Incredibowls crew, who were led by Matt Stoneberg’s fine 203 game and Rod Pratt’s 201.

Gordon Pillon tossed a 211 game for Pins in Low Places, but they lost 3-1 to The BowLeeAnders.

And Jason Borton rolled a nice 211 game for his Save the Pins crew, which was just enough to get a 2-2 split with the first-place Munsons.
