THE GORGE — September is Hunger Action Month, a time when people across the country join together to help end hunger. This September, Oregon Food Bank is asking you to rethink what hunger looks like in our communities and to join us to build solutions that work for all Oregonians.Â
Hunger is everywhere in Oregon — from the Gorge to Medford to Ontario, in rural, urban and suburban communities. Across our state, 1 in 6 people are at risk of going hungry. Families are making impossible decisions as rent prices rise faster than wages and healthcare and childcare costs keep climbing. At the same time, Oregonians have lost vital federal food assistance that helps put food on the table.
This is about more than food. Hunger is the result of policy choices about jobs, wages, housing, healthcare and where resources go.Â
This September, we hope you take action to end hunger in our communities.Â
Sign the pledge: Join in urging our lawmakers to support policies that help Oregonians put food on the table (secure.oregonfoodbank.org/a/pledge-to-end-hunger).Â
Make a gift: Rally your community and raise funds to help meet the growing need in Oregon (www.givegab.com/campaigns/hunger-action-fundraising-challenge).
Attend Empty Bowls: Join Columbia Gorge Food Bank on Sept. 25 for an evening of celebration and generosity (event.auctria.com/3c451b2a-e645-408e-a239-640ec0a47da7).
All across Oregon, people are coming together and pushing for change. Together, we are making sure that everyone has access to nourishing food, no matter where we live. Together, we can create a future free from hunger.
