HR man arrested for attempted murder

According to the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were called to the 3800 block of Paul Partlow Road shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday evening on a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, deputies found Wilson suffering from multiple stab wounds. HRCSO reported “a deputy and neighbors performed life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived.”

Wilson was ultimately transported from the scene via Life Flight to Oregon Health and Sciences University Hospital in Portland where he was listed in critical condition. Sheriff Matt English reported Monday afternoon that Wilson’s condition has since improved.

According to the HRCSO log, Bush voluntarily came in for questioning after the stabbing occurred and was lodged at the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facility in The Dalles “without incident.”

HRCSO obtained a warrant to search Bush’s house, located at 3671 Paul Partlow Road. The road is north of Dee and accesses properties that primarily consist of public and private timberland and few residences.

According to the HRCSO log, deputies discovered “ammunition, illegal weapons, explosives and drugs” on the property. During Bush’s arraignment, Hood River County District Attorney John Sewell noted that methamphetamine was found on the property.

This is not Bush’s first serious run-in with the law, nor is it the first time deputies have searched his property. According to the News’ archives, Bush was arrested in January 1999 in Wilsonville on a federal fugitive warrant for drugs and weapons violations. The arrest came after a six-month undercover operation and involved the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office, the Mid-Columbia Interagency Narcotics Task Force (MINT), and a Federal Bureau of Investigations strike force.

According to the 1999 story, former Sheriff Joe Wampler told the News that Bush had let it be known that he would shoot to kill law enforcement officers if they tried to capture him. It was reported Bush was armed with a loaded .38-caliber Walther handgun and had extra magazines on his person when he was arrested.

At the time, Bush was living at the same Paul Partlow Road residence he lives at today. The report in the News stated authorities uncovered chemicals to make methamphetamines at his home, as well as “a stash of weapons, including fully automatic assault weapons, hand grenades and other weapons, buried underground in a refrigerator.” According to archives on the Oregon Department of Justice website, Bush was ultimately sentenced to 118 months in prison.

At his most recent arraignment, Bush mentioned that he has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and stated he collected $2,400 a month from Social Security and disability. Connor Sullivan of Hood River law firm Morris, Smith, Starns, Raschio & Sullivan was appointed to be Bush’s attorney.

At the conclusion of the arraignment, bail was maintained at $125,000 and Bush was ordered by Hood River Circuit Court Judge John A. Olson to have no contact with the victim as well as Jon Kahler, Judith Charbonneau, and Donald Hendershot, whom English confirmed were Bush’s neighbors. English declined to comment further on the case since it had been referred to the district attorney’s office.

Olson reported during the hearing that first degree assault and attempted murder are Measure 11 offenses which each carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 7.5 years in prison if a conviction is reached. Bush’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 31.
