THE DALLES — North Wasco County School District 21 (NWCSD) board elected two new directors to leadership positions at the July 24 school board meeting.
All directors were present, with David Pohlen and Katie Kelley attending virtually.
By a 5-2 margin, Betsy Hege will serve as chair and Pohlen as vice chair, both of whom were elected in May. No votes in both instances came from Directors Jose Aparicio and Dayna Wynn-Elledge (the former nominated himself for chair, and the latter was nominated for vice chair).
The board was also slated to appoint directors to various standing committees, but after a discussion, decided to table those appointments until after the Aug. 18 board retreat.
Later, the board approved Resolution 25-26-02, which declared a server as surplus equipment, as presented by Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Dan Pedersen; Pedersen and Superintendent Carolyn Bernal said the tech department declared the server no longer compatible with its other systems. The server is now headed to the Warden School District, located in Washington State.
Newly elected union representatives — Chair Kate Galt and Vice Chair Abby Cyphers, District 21 Education Association; and Chair Sonia Schatz, North Wasco Education Support Professionals — spoke during the public comment period to introduce themselves and their respective unions to new board members.
The next regular board meeting will be held Aug. 21 at The Dalles Middle School.
