CASCADE LOCKS — Following a two-hour workshop that included council procedures, the Cascade Locks City Council held its second regular meeting of the year on Jan. 27 (see related story).
A violation of procedure from the Jan. 13 meeting regarding the selection of the council president was noted and rectified during the Jan. 27 meeting.
On Jan. 13, newly seated Councilor Tiffany Pruitt was nominated to serve as president by Councilor Marianne Bump; that nomination was immediately seconded by Mayor Brenda Wood, and Pruitt was subsequently elected.
During the workshop, it was determined that a procedural error had occurred, and the election was invalid.
Wood, in her first meeting as mayor, was supposed to delegate presiding over the matter to senior member Pete Happy before seconding Bump’s nomination. Not doing so created a violation of council procedures.
Wood led the council through a second election, with Bump nominating Pruitt, Wood correctly seconding, and discussion following, though Pruitt failed to secure the needed majority.
A second nomination for Happy made by Denise Emmerling-Baker and seconded by Councilor Bernard Seeger resulted in a majority vote for Happy, who will serve as council president for the next two years.
The council also reviewed public comment procedures during the work session.
