A fire completely destroyed two buildings near the old Broughton Mill in Skamania County last Wednesday afternoon.
Calls for a structure fire near the mill off of State Route 14 across from the Spring Creek Fish Hatchery began coming in around 1:30 p.m. Crews from Skamania County Fire District 1, Klickitat County Fire District 3, White Salmon, Husum, and Underwood all responded.
Traffic was not impacted by the fire.
Tim Newell, site commander with Fire District No. 1, said an investigation on the fire is pending, so no cause has been confirmed as of press time.
One building was said to have been an office formerly associated with the Broughton Mill. The purpose served by the second building involved could not be confirmed at the scene, but Newell said no one was inside either building when the fire started.
The blaze burned hot and fast, leaving nothing but the charred remains of both structures that were still flaring up hours afterward.
