THE DALLES —Applications are now open for the 2024 Local Government Academy. According to a City of The Dalles press release, the LGA is a free program aimed at educating community members about “the operations, services and programs of [The Dalles] local government,” offering the opportunity to engage with City staff and elected officials to provide an in-depth understanding of how the local government works.
Sessions will be held on Aug. 27, Aug. 29, Sept. 3, Sept. 5, Sept. 10, Sept. 12, and Sept. 17 from 6-7:30 p.m., with a final LGA Graduate recognition at the City Council Meeting on Sept. 23 at 5:30 p.m.
According to the press release, the LGA will feature classroom-style presentations, tours and discussions will representatives from city departments including Police, Public Works, City Manager, Attorney, Human Resources, Library, Finance Community and Economic Development, and the Columbia Gorge Regional Airport.
“At every presentation, I was impressed by the high quality of city leadership and personnel. This experience has given me the knowledge and confidence to seek out roles to contribute to our community,” past participant Sarah Mello shared in the press release.
Applications are due by Friday, Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. Applicants will be notified of their status no later than Friday, Aug. 16. To be eligible, you must be a resident of The City of The Dalles, at least 18 years of age, interested in future participation in local government, and available to attend all sessions.
