HOOD RIVER — Deevonna Frasier is hosting the fourth annual Ezra Blue’s Flight for Cancer in memory of her late grandson, Ezra Blue Duckwall, on Aug. 15. The run for pediatric brain cancer research will begin at the Mark O. Hatfield Twin Tunnels Trail Head at 9 a.m.
The fundraiser is open to those with all levels of experience, and includes several routes of differing lengths. At 9 a.m., participants can join a 10K, 5K, a virtual run, a team fun run, or a nine-mile run to commemorate Ezra Blue’s 9th birthday. The event will also include a 100 yard dash at 9:15 a.m. for younger children and those who prefer a shorter route.
Ezra Blue was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor of the cerebellum, when he was 3 years old. His tumor was removed with surgery, but the cancer had spread into his spinal cord, and he eventually was unable to continue treatment. He passed away in November 2022.
Frasier wanted to organize an event that would both commemorate her grandson and provide hope to children fighting through similar conditions. This year, she hopes the Gorge will once again come together to show their support. “We want to include community members to join us to honor his legacy and help other children affected by this illness,” she said.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to Seattle Children’s Hospital, particularly to research projects focused on medulloblastoma.

Participants also have the opportunity to win a prize, donated by Shortt Supply, including items like sunglasses, hats and other running gear. Raffle tickets can be purchased through Venmo or on-site at the event.
