The Morning Joe crew is shocked that President Donald Trump is now saying the quiet part out loud when it comes to what he thinks about the rising costs affecting everyday U.S. citizens.
On Wednesday’s (May 13) edition of the MS NOW morning show, the hosts aired a clip of Trump talking to reporters on the White House lawn on Tuesday (May 12). After he was asked whether he was concerned about “Americans’ financial situations” amid his war with Iran, the president responded, “Not even a little bit.”
“The only thing that matters when I’m talking about Iran… they can’t have a nuclear weapon. I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation. I don’t think about anybody,” he added. “I think about one thing: we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon. That’s all.”
Co-host Mika Brzezinski repeated Trump’s words, saying, “‘I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation,’ President Trump, with that admission to a reporter yesterday.”
Her husband and co-host Joe Scarborough then removed his glasses and said, “I mean, really? Come on. Like Democrats are now going, wait, is he…”
“Is he saying that openly?” Brzezinski interjected.
“He is literally saying, ‘I’m not worried about you. I don’t even think about you. I’m worried about an endless war,'” Scarborough added.
Co-host Willie Geist noted how Trump basically handed the Democrats a freebie, saying that his latest quote is “clip and save for Democrats throughout this campaign season.”
“He’s been showing that he doesn’t care about Americans financial situations since the beginning of this war, as gas prices and food prices have risen,” Geist continued. “Now he’s just saying it out loud: ‘I actually don’t care.’”
“I was thinking back to like, all those times where you had to interpret or spin a president being out of touch, George H.W. Bush misreading the grocery scanner or whatever,” he added. “And now you have a president just saying, ‘I don’t care about your financial situation.'”
Scaborough went on to say that the situation is so bad that Trump has “lost” Fox Business host Larry Kudlow. “It’s just this is how Americans live, and an overwhelming polls like, man… this isn’t Democrats saying it, it’s not independent. It’s everybody saying it, man,” he added. “Like 70% of Americans, 75% of Americans say everything costs too much. We’re in a terrible situation/”
He continued, “And the president picks that day to go out there while he’s worried about golden arches and he’s worried about golden ballrooms. And we find out about this Trump gold phone scam, well, you know, and he’s worried about crypto, and he’s worried about their family making billions and billions of dollars and says, ‘Yeah, well, you know, we’re doing great, but we don’t really care about how you and your family are doing.'”
