Fourteen youth athletes from The Dalles and Hood River swim teams competed in the USA Swimming/Oregon Swimming Inc. (OSI) age 10 & under long course state championship meet July 13-14 in Albany.
The Dalles Dolphins, guided by third-year Coach Ann Goodman, had eight swimmers competing at the indoor Albany Community Pool. Those athletes included Hannah Anslinger, Aspen Denney, Elijah Bachman, Brody Whitmire, Hunter Hall, Angus McInnes, Noah Anslinger and Holten Lawrence.
“It was a big meet, and all the kids swam well there,” said Goodman.
Denney placed 18th in the girls age nine 100 breaststroke, and Lawrence plalced 18th in the boys 50 backstroke.
Hood River’s swim team, guided by longtime Coach Shelly Rawding, included Gracie Adams, Finn Blakeslee, Rowan Hogue, and JessieMae Williams.
“All of our swimmers did fantastic,” said Rawding. “Gracie had huge time drops in her 50 back and 100 freestyle. Everyone swam personal best times. We had only one event that wasn’t a personal best.”

Blakeslee swam in three boys age-eight events. Blakeslee was 35th in the 100 free (1:57.41), he was 44th in the 50 back (1:01.44), and he was 29th in the 50 free (49.85). He swam personal-best times in all three events.
Adams swam to personal best times in four boys age eight events, which included a fourth place in the 50 free (40.57). Adams took 14th place in the 50 back (51.60) and he took ninth in both the 50 breast (1:02.66) and the 100 free (1:37.17).
