Long pursuit — Feb. 3, a Chrysler sedan escaped Hood River police. A trooper found the vehicle driving in ways that “endangered the innocent motorist public,” and lost it; Wasco County chased the car, and lost it; OSP found it again, and tried to stop it. The car took off, escaping multiple spike strips. Troopers stopped when the pursuit became too dangerous. Morrow County deputies found it abandoned, and searched with drone and dog for fleeing persons, without luck. The vehicle was seized under a warrant and taken for investigation; suspects are multiple.
DUII crash — Feb. 1, a lone car lost control on a Hwy 97 curve in Sherman County; rolled multiple times, hit a guardrail, and stopped in a ditch. The driver went to a hospital, and was charged with DUII and reckless driving.
DUII arrest — Jan. 31, a trooper stopped a speeding GMC Terrain at W. Sixth and Chenowith, The Dalles. The driver was arrested on charges of DUII, resisting arrest and lack of a driver’s license; they also provided a false name, and were later identified in jail. The Dalles also encountered five DUII drivers last week.
Four non-injury crash reports from OSP — Jan. 29, a jeep turned left on Hwy 97 and swiped a semi-truck. Feb. 1, a driver fell asleep and hit a guardrail on the I-84 offramp near milepost 63 eastbound. The same day, a Kia Soul hydroplaned on I-84 and rolled. And a Scion’s driver fell asleep and rear-ended a box truck on I-84.
Charges — Jan. 29 - Feb. 4, OSP charged folks with bias crime (1), driving suspended (1), DUII (5), fail to present license (1), false info (1), menacing (1), reckless driving (1), resist arrest (1), unlawful use of vehicle (1), warrant (4), weapons (1). Jan. 25-31, Hood River charged people with driving suspended (2), DUII (3), reckless driving (2), warrant (2). And Bingen-White Salmon officers arrested one person since Jan. 26, for DUII.
In January, Hood River Sheriff’s Office arrested people on APSO (1), disorderly (1), driving suspended or revoked (1), drugs (3), DUII (2), trespass (1), warrant (5).
Violence — Wasco County reported a domestic violence call. The Dalles logged seven domestic violence calls and an assault.
Other chases — Wasco County also reported a pursuit, Feb. 2, on Browns Creek Road.
Mental health — one call from Wasco County. The Dalles got five mental health calls, and a suicide call.
Deaths — on Old Dufur, Mill Creek, and E. 17th Place, The Dalles, last week.
Thefts — In The Dalles, 14 theft calls including eight from W. Sixth. Plus burglary calls from W. Eighth and W. Fourth. Hood River reported ID theft, attempted fraud, and three thefts, including $20 from a customer and someone at Walmart who made off with a backpack and pockets full of loot.
In Bingen-White Salmon — A fraud and a theft report; barking dogs; two found wallets; one crash; and an assault.
Three search-and-rescue operations — Jan. 9 at Mt. Hood Meadows; Jan. 10 for injured climber near Devil’s Kitchen; and, on Jan. 24, Nordic Ski Patrol at Teacup Lake Sno Park requested a case number for an injured skier who required an ambulance.
Crashes — Two in Wasco County, nine calls from The Dalles — including four crashes on W. Sixth. Hood River reported two non-injury crashes.
Weapons — The Dalles reported a Jan. 30 weapons violation on W. Fourth, a gunshot on Richland that also ended as a weapons violation log, and another call on W. Sixth.
Bridge again — Jan. 31, officer responded to the center of the Hood River Bridge for hit-and-run damage that was possibly obstructing traffic.
Oops, right person — A driver at Les Schwab was detained when officers could not confirm their identity; eventually evidence confirmed the driver had given their name honestly, and they were released.
January in Hood River County — Deputies last month recorded four unattended deaths in Cascade Locks, Post Canyon and Hood River; cited three kids at the high school, including one for marijuana possession; nabbed two adults for DUII and one for possessing methamphetamine; and reported a blackmail attempt in Parkdale.
They got a domestic violence report. A report of possible sexual abuse. And a report of physical molestation.
Six theft reports that month included a storage unit break-in, finding a possibly stolen firearm, a stolen bike and e-bike, and two cases of forged checks.
Plus, an adult female human bit by dog on Jan. 9. Unrelated, a dead dog was found in the road later that month.
