The Hattenhauer Distributing Columbia Gorge Hustlers American Legion Single A (17U) baseball team concluded its summer league schedule on a positive note with the momentum of a three-game winning streak.
The Hustlers followed a July 14, 4-3 home win over Roosevelt with a July 15 Gorge rivalry, 14-9 home win over the Columbia River Bandits of White Salmon.
In the win over the Bandits, the Hustlers overcame a 3-0 second-inning deficit. The Hustlers scored two runs in the bottom of the second and then they put five runs on the board in the third to take a 7-3 advantage. The Hustlers then outscored the Bandits 7-3 over the next four innings.
The Hustlers outhit the Bandits, 17-10, and they were led offensively by Evan Ortega (RBI), Trey Hodges (1-for-3) and Wyatt Bolton (two RBI).
The Hustlers (14-16) then capped the season with a 5-4 road win July 18 over the Tri-Cities Badgers (10-18) in Pasco. The Hustlers were led offensively by Ortega (RBI), Bolton (two RBI) and Hodges (1-for-3).
The Bandits (3-9) won a road game, 14-10, over Longview on July 16. The Bandits were led offensively by Kai Brasuell (3-for-5, two doubles, five RBI), Jaden Wang (3-for-4, two double, three RBI) and Wyatt Stelma (1-for-2, two RBI, two runs scored). Relief pitcher Trenton Boydston allowed two hits, with two strikeouts in the final two innings.
The Bandits then played in the Last Hurrah Tournament on July 19-21 at Skyview High School. They lost their first game 6-2 on Friday, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, which they lost 6-4 and 14-6. Jaden Wang led the Bandits’ offense with six hits and Bryce Wang added five hits over the two contests.
The Bandits play their next game Thursday in a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Heritage High School in Vancouver, followed by their season finale Saturday at Hudson’s Bay High in Vancouver.
