TROUT LAKE — Record-setting Trout Lake sophomore Melody Stock paced the Mustangs during their fourth-place trophy finish at the May 29-30 OSAA Class 1A state track and field meet in Eugene.

Stock won the 1500 meters and was second in the 3000 to score 18 of Trout Lake’s 36 team points. She raced to personal records in each event, winning the 1500 in the final few meters in 4 minutes, 51.26 seconds, a state meet record. Runner-up Paiten Braseth of Imbler was second at 4:51.38. All four top finishers eclipsed the previous state meet best.
Coach Sharla Rubesh’s Mustang team also received nine points from senior Violette Anderson, who threw a personal best 36 feet, 8.75 inches (11.18 meters) to place third in the shot put; was seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (16.93 PR); and eighth in the high jump at 4-9.
Sophomore Cora Sharp finished seventh in the 100 meters (season best 13.22 prelims) and was ninth in the long jump. She ran the anchor leg on Trout Lake’s 4x400 relay team along with Lupe Medina, Stock and Riley Rickman, which finished fourth in a season best 4:21.66.
Ellie Rubesh replaced Stock on the Mustang 4x100 relay which was seventh in a season best 53.04. Medina competed at state in the 300 hurdles.
The fourth-place 4x400 relay finish was worth five team points and moved the Mustangs from seventh into fourth to clinch their team trophy. With their effort, Trout Lake surpassed Union (34), North Lake (33) and Powder Valley (32).
South Wasco County’s girls team was 12th at state with 23 points. The Redsides were led by the runner-up finishes from junior Jayda Iverson and sophomore Bailey Udey. Iverson was second in the 800 meters in a PR 2:26.55 and also placed sixth in the 400 (1:03.18). Udey was second in the triple jump at 34-7 (10.54 meters) and fifth in the long jump at 15-7.25 (4.76 meters). Macy Bell competed at state in the high jump.
Horizon Christian had two 1A state meet placers in seniors Hannah Adams and Bella Sperry. Adams was third in the 100 hurdles in 16.07 seconds and tied for sixth in the high jump (4-9, 1.45 meters). Sperry finished fifth in the high jump at a PR 4-10.25 (1.48 meters). Adams also competed in the pole vault.
Dufur freshman Ellie Brock placed fourth in the 400 meters (1:02.61) and also competed in the 200. Sherman sophomore T’Sharra Lanthorn was sixth in the 800 (PR 2:31.73) and ran a non-placing PR in the 3000 of 11:46.14. Teammate Taylor Payne competed in the 1500 (5:33.61) and Arwen Dorzab competed in the high jump for the Huskies.
Imbler won the 1A girls team title with 71 points, followed by Joseph (65) and Harper (40).
