THE GORGE — Trout Lake senior Sawyer Dean accomplished a feat that one day may be matched but will never be broken. Dean won his fourth OSAA Class 1A boys state pole vault championship on May 29 at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Dean cleared a meet record 15 feet, 6.25 inches (4.73 meters) in winning his fourth title and helped lead the three-person Mustang state team to 15th place with 15 points. Dean entered the competition after all 12 other competitors had three misses at a height. He cleared 4.31 meters (14-2) on his first try, passed at 4.38 meters (14-4), and cleared 4.57 and 4.73 meters on his second attempts.
