Two very different choral masterpieces are the focus of the Voci Community Choir’s next concerts, May 9 at 7 p.m., and May 10 at 4 p.m.

Composer Morten Lauridsen was born in Portland and has been teaching for several years at USC. He maintains a “composing hut” in the San Juan Islands and he is widely regarded as one of America’s most significant choral composers. One of his most beloved works is “Lux Aeterna,” a setting of several texts on the theme of light. Drawing in part from the Requiem and other Latin sacred poems, “Lux Aeterna” is mystical, joyous, and profound.
