Kegler's Corner: Orchard Lanes wins Industrial

The Orchard Lanes trio crushed their opponent, the formidable past multi-league champion MTS, in the final match of the season. The format for this match was a three-game total pins team contest including handicap. These two teams were essentially evenly matched going in. Orchard Lanes had 118 pins of handicap per game whereas MTS had 111. But, when the smoke cleared, Orchard Lanes upended 2,038 pins to 1,842 for MTS, nearly a 200-pin thumping.

Carl Casey starred in the match for his Orchard Lanes team, rolling a big 245 game and 639 series. That effort was a whopping 111 pins over his average! MTS never had a chance. Folks, that’s how to win the big ones, show up and punish those poor pins!

Recently, Carl got a new ball, the M+M Hustle pearl from Roto Grip, a famous long-time bowling ball company. With his new ball, Carl has been bowling like a machine, racking up strike after strike. He was definitely “the man” in this big match! Congratulations to Carl Casey, Ken Kramer and Nancy Asai! Winning the Industrial league is quite a feat.

Well, it’s that time once again. As we always do at the end of the regular bowling season, here are the high scores for 2023-24, a list of bowlers who averaged 200, to honor their outstanding bowling and our all-star teams:

HIGH SCORES, MEN: We had four perfect 300 games rolled at Orchard Lanes this past season: Jeremy Bloom had two of them, Chad Mason and Josh Worth each had one. Jeremy Bloom also posted the high three game series, a HUGE 818!

HIGH SCORES, WOMEN: high average, Nancy Asai 188; high game, Nancy Asai 276; high series, Ciena Brittle 684.

200 AVERAGE BOWLERS:

Patrick Olson 226, Jeremy Bloom 220, Chad Mason 217, AJ Perdue 212, Stan Pratnicki 210, Ken Espersen 209, John Helm 207, Josh Worth 207, Aaron Troxel 203, Matt Hodges 201, Rod Pratt 200 and Mike Parke 200.

A grand total of 12 bowlers averaged 200 or better in leagues at Orchard Lanes this past season. Folks, that’s some mighty fine bowling. For the 12 of you, be proud of this accomplishment, it’s not easy to average 200 in bowling. Granted scoring is higher now, with new high-tech bowling balls and computerized lane machines that put down consistent oil patterns every day, every week, and every month for our league bowlers, but we still consider a 200 average is like par in golf. It’s pretty darn good!

OK, here are our all-star teams for the 2023-24 league bowling season based simply on highest averages:

WOMEN: Nancy Asai 188, Ciena Brittle 183, Bernie Keys 182, Erin Salisbury 178, Melissa Werkheiser 172.

MEN: Patrick Olson 226, Jeremy Bloom 220, Chad Mason 217, AJ Perdue 212, Stan Pratnicki 210.
