Bowling leagues are off and running at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes, up on the Heights. We’re only a few weeks into the 2023-24 season and scores are looking really good. Here are some highlights from last week’s league action.
Monday night Industrial League
Steve Byers continued where he left off from last season by rolling a mighty fine 679 three game series to lead his MTS trio to an 18-7 win over Team No. 4. Steve was 130 pins over his current average. It’s pretty darn hard to beat that kind of action.
Randy’s Painting went all over OL’7-10, whitewashing them to a 24-1 drubbing. Starring for the painters was the sponsor himself, Randy Nieto, who notched a 242 game and 622 series. Teammate Albert Frelix joined in on the fun with a 615 series. These two were a combined 130 pins over their current averages. OL’7-10 never had a chance.
Team No. 9 swamped the powerful Pat’s Pro Shop crew 22-3 as James Youtsey pounded the sticks with a 259 game and 626 series. Shows you underdogs can win.
Team No. 10 had similar success against Orchard Lanes, blitzing them to a 22-3 win. Rod Pratt led the scoring for Team No. 10 with a 606 series but it wasn’t as easy as it looks because All-Star Nancy Asai tossed a super 667 series at them in their match as she racked up games of 242,223 and 202. Sometimes you just can’t win no matter what you do.
Tuesday Nite Mixed
Defending champs Who Gives a Split took Split Faced 3-1 as proprietor Patrick Olson found the range with a nifty 718 series. That’s kind of a ho-hummer for Patrick as he pretty much averages 230 per game.
Double A Orchards waxed Team Nishi 3-1 as Nancy Asai led her foursome with a 201 game and 594 series. Those numbers are barely average for Nancy, who is a perennial All-Star pin buster in Hood River.
Team Kawachi took Team Silva 3-1 as Brandon Kawachi manhandled the pins to tune of a 243 game and 682 series. When Brandon gets that powerful buzz saw ball of his in the zone, the pins can’t dance fast enough off the decks.
Wednesday night Faternal League
Hood River Athletic Club clobbered Team No. 11, 22-3 behind All-Star Bernie Keys cool 648 series. Ciena Brittle posted a solid 631 for Team No. 11 but it wasn’t enough.
Orchard Lanes cooked Get Hu’sum BBQ 21-4. Orchard Lanes was paced by Pat Olson’s 644 series. Speed ball artist Stan Pratnicki gave his best for the BBQ boys as he logged a nice but futile 687 series. It’s hard to beat the big boys.
Mt. Hood BBQ got their charcoal briquettes mighty hot as they smoked the Red Rockets 20-5. John Riggleman paced the BBQ team with a 611 series.
Team of the Week
Patrick Olson 718
Stan Pratnicki 687
Brandon Kawachi 682
Steve Byers 679
