This week volunteers at Adopt A Dog have selected Logan as the program’s adoptable pet of the week:
Logan is 2 or 3 years old, likely Great Dane and Boxer mix ... maybe some Spaniel in there? He’s 60 pounds, tall and skinny! And he’s got a big underbite, which is kind of funny, because he tries really hard to fit as many tennis balls in that mouth of his, but the teeth don’t make it easy!
Logan is a calm, gentle and loving, devoted dog. That is, until you bring out the toys! He’s still got lots of puppy in him, and he’s not shy about it, so hold on, because Logan is ready! He is so ready that we are working on teaching him to settle down a bit. But he doesn’t mind. He takes corrections well and is learning fast. If there’s no one around to play, he’ll entertain himself by tossing toys up in the air and then try to catch them, or at least scamper off after them!
Because Logan needs a reminder to calm, we are not recommending him to a home with small kids. Other than that, he’s fantastic ...oh, except one other thing. Logan had surgery about a year ago to repair a broken hip and they had to remove part of his femur and everything was going well, but now he walks and runs like his chassis is out of alignment! Some call it his swagger, others just chuckle and enjoy the show! He’s so playful and crazy about fetch that during his recovery, he wasn’t kept from running around, and he injured the ACL on his other leg, so now he’s not allowed to go crazy mad and play as hard as he’d like, but he doesn’t seem to care one bit. The vet says he doesn’t need surgery as long as he is kept from going berserk! He just walks funny!
Logan still goes on long hikes every day, and he’s fine. And he can still play with other dogs, just not real hard, so no dog parks for him. And he’ll never be a running partner. But we do take advantage of his love of fetch and water and he gets lots of swim therapy in at the beach. He LOVES the water!
He may not be perfect, but he is a wonderful, doting pet. He promises to make everyone around agree he’s the best dog ever. Logan is great with dogs, and cats, not so much chickens ... So, if your heart is ready for some warm, loving feeling, come meet Logan! Guaranteed to please! Logan is housetrained, crate trained, current on shots, microchipped and neutered. The adoption fee for Logan is $150. The fee to adopt is charged to recoup standard veterinary expenses. Since many of our dogs are in foster, please call ahead to meet Logan in Odell at the Hukari Animal Shelter, 3910 Heron Drive, or call for more information at 541-354-1083. Adoption hours are Wednesday, 5-7 p.m. and Saturday, 9-11 a.m.
