This week volunteers at Adopt A Dog have selected Chico as the program’s adoptable pet of the week. They describe him as follows:
“November is ‘Adopt A Senior Pet Month,’ and Chico deserves the spotlight for this occasion. Chico is 10 years old, about 20 pounds, and finally on his way to having the life he deserves.
“Chico is one of a group we rescued recently who has spent his life living outside in a small, dirt-floor shed surrounded by filth, feces and 15 other dogs. Imagine 10 years of that? But Chico doesn’t hold on to the past, and is instead fully enjoying his new life in a warm environment at the shelter with plenty of food, a soft bed, and he’s really loving the cuddles and walks and play time he gets from our volunteers.
“He wasn’t very sure about us when he first arrived, and was so scared, he just did his best to hide in the corner and hoped not to be noticed, but that’s not how we roll, and who could resist that face? It didn’t take long for Chico to decide this new place felt pretty good and now he’s so happy and appreciative, he gladly runs up to everyone and anyone, just to hopefully get a good rub-down in, and maybe even get carried around! That’s fun!
“Just imagine how thrilled he’ll be to get into a real forever home where he’ll hopefully find a cozy couch, or lap to snuggle on while he watches TV! TV!
“Chico is such a nice little fella! He gets all excited when he knows it’s his turn for a walk, and he loves hanging out in the office, too. Chico may be a senior dog, but he doesn’t act like it. He’s got lots of living to do and he’s ready to be someone’s best friend now.”
Chico is current on shots, microchipped and neutered. His adoption fee is $115. The fee to adopt is charged to recoup standard veterinary expenses.
Since many of AAD’s dogs are in foster care, please call ahead to meet Chico at the Hukari Animal Shelter, 3910 Heron Drive, Odell; 541-354-1083. Adoption hours are Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9-11 a.m.
