OUTDOOR MOVIE has no religious theme, but Emmanuel Baptist Pastor Nate Warren will speak of the importance of relationship and priorities after the show Friday, July 31.
omething free and fun to do on Friday, July 31 can catch “The Lego Movie” on an outdoor screen at Emmanuel Baptist Church, with snacks provided.
Emmanuel Baptist Pastor Nate Warren said the church, at 2819 W. 10th, wanted to provide a family-oriented, activity for the community.
“The Lego Movie” is an animated PG 100-minute movie with an all-star cast. It features an ordinary Lego mini-figure who is identified as the most “extraordinary person” and the key to saving the Lego universe from an evil tyrant who wants to glue the Lego universe together.
The church has a 12x12 inflatable outdoor movie screen and will be serving theater-themed snacks like popcorn, Milk Duds and pop.
The movie is tentatively set to start around 8:30 p.m. but will depend on when it gets dark, Warren said.
Families are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs so they can sit in a grassy area where the movie will be shown.
The Lego Movie reveals itself as the imagination of a kid. “The boy is imagining the story and the evil guy in the story is Lord Business, and you find out about halfway through the movie that he isn’t so evil, but it’s symbolic of his dad, who’s always spending his time at work doing business-related stuff. At the end of the movie the dad sees the importance of spending time with his son,” Warren said.
The movie doesn’t have a religious theme, but Warren will have a short talk after the movie on the importance of relationship and the importance of priorities.
The church was hoping to do more outdoor movies this summer, but ended up being able to schedule one. If this one proves to be a big enough draw, the church will plan to do more movies next year.
“We’re hoping and praying for good weather. We’re even looking at the weather report and seeing what the wind will do because the wind will affect whether it can play outside,” he said.
The weather is supposed to be a high of 90 that day, and winds are set to be 2-5 mph. “It’s supposed to be a great day, weatherwise,” he said.
And, if the weather doesn’t cooperate, they’ll just take the event inside, he said.
The church still needs to source a sound system for the event, because it doesn’t have a portable one.
Warren helped with the Famfest hosted by ACTS (Acclaiming Christ through Sports) last month and was “really encouraged” at the large turnout of the event, held at the Lewis And Clark Festival Park.
The church is also planning a family block party for Aug. 22.
