Hood River County Fair concludes Saturday, and there is plenty for kids — beyond the ever-popular amusement rides. The fair opens at noon; carnival rides begin at 1 p.m.
Free with fair admission are many other great attractions — many found in the park area, or around the fairgrounds. Kidz Dental is sponsoring many of the park activities. They happen at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Kids can check out what other kids have created in the Open Class art exhibit, in the Wy’east gym, and at the Summit Building, where 4-H creations are on display. At the animal barns, visitors can see up close the livestock raised by local youth,
4-H and FFA participants will gladly answer questions of any youngster thinking of joining a club.
Kids visiting the animal barns are reminded to avoid touching the animals and their effects. If you want to pet an animal, ask a barn volunteer. Hand-washing stations are available on-site.
In the park, the “Walk on the Wild Side” exotic animal show displays a wide range of exotic animals and reptiles in a jungle atmosphere, and Godfrey the Magician serves up award-winning comedy and levitation tricks. Professor Bamboozle’s Road Show brings laughs and fun. And look for Dr. Solar’s Good Time, Traveling Medicine Show’s unique magical and educational family-friendly entertainment.
“Wool Busting!” is back. Kids up to 55 pounds and younger than 12 can try their hand at riding sheep. There’s fun for bigger kids, too, including the Buck-A-Ewe mechanical sheep, and “Just for Fun” Roping Clinics. Kids can also enjoy more sedate pony rides, located next to Woolbusting.
