ZIG ZAG — Evan Stuckless, also known as Papa Coyote, is hosting a fundraising concert for ALS Northwest at the Skyway Bar & Grill on Jan. 22, gathering friends from the Portland music scene for an evening of song and support.

In August 2025, Stuckless was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s disease, a progressive and ultimately fatal condition that paralyzes the body, typically in three to five years. In Stuckless’s cases, it began in the legs, making mobility an issue, but still allowing him to play and sing for the near future.
Under his stage name Papa Coyote, Stuckless plays and covers world roots music with a positive message and whimsical vibe. Specializing in Afropop and Zydeco, he transports listeners to a diverse assortment of spaces, from a Paris Cafe to a trip down the Nile. Over the years, he’s made stops across the country, from New York to New Orleans, and up and down the West Coast, sharing the bill with luminaries like The Wailers, Little Feat, reggae founder Toots and the Maytals and jam legends like the Jerry Garcia Band.
During the benefit, Stuckless will play from his repertoire of world roots-influenced original material, traditional songs and favorites from The Grateful Dead, The Band and other hippy standards.
ALS Northwest is a nonprofit organization serving the needs of nearly 600 people in Oregon and Southwest Washington who have been diagnosed with ALS, providing care services, financial assistance, medical equipment loans, volunteer support and investment in research for treatments and a cure.
Skyway Bar & Grill is located at 71545 E US-26 in Zig Zag, near Mount Hood. The performance will take place from 6-8 p.m.
