Library Tree

Braun Arboriculture Consulting of Hood River removed a tree at the southeast corner of the library last week.

A Norway maple at the southeast corner of Hood River Library property, on State Street, is removed due to defects consisting of extensive sun-scald on the main trunk and bark loss on 40 percent of the tree. The upper crown was weak and there were large, dead limbs, part of which had died this season, according to library Director Rachael Fox. The tree would have needed extensive pruning and this would not reduce the rating to low risk for public safety. It was determined the tree would likely continue to decline and need removal in the near future. To ensure public safety particularly for those using the handicap parking spaces, the decision was made to remove the tree, Fox reported. Braun Arboriculture Consulting of Hood River provided the service. A neighboring maple was trimmed last week and will be retained.
